brand-gen: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

brand-gen AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from velinussage/brand-gen. It costs 2,054 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for AI agents working on the brand-gen project. They describe where brand information lives, which editing methods are allowed, and how changes are recorded.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them before changing brand-gen files, especially brand data, generation settings, or iteration records. They also define the project’s editing rules and permitted mutation commands.
Why use it?
Brand data is stored both as readable documents and as structured configuration. These instructions help agents update the right form through the right process without breaking the project’s audit trail.

Instructions file for CodexOpenCode

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: reads .claude/ paths; mentions Claude Code; mentions AGENTS.md.

This is velinussage/brand-gen's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on brand-gen itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything brand-gen configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02054 $0.02054
Opus 5 $0.01027 $0.01027
Sonnet 5 $0.00411 $0.00411
Haiku 4.5 $0.00205 $0.00205

Security

Grade A, and why

brand-gen AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 103 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

brand-gen agent contract

This file tells AI agents (Claude Code, pi, openclaw, Cursor, Continue, etc.) how to mutate brand state in this repository. Read this before editing any file under brand_gen/, data/, or .brand-gen/brands/<brand>/.

The hybrid pattern

Brand state lives in two shapes, mutated through two channels:

Shape Where Mutated by Audit
Prose direction — paragraph-shaped voice, framings, art direction, adoption scenes .brand-gen/brands/<brand>/voice/*.md, .brand-gen/brands/<brand>/custom-scratchpad.md, .brand-gen/brands/<brand>/iteration-memory.md, .brand-gen/brands/<brand>/brand-identity.md Agent Edit / Write directly; human-curated; review-on-merge gate git history
Structured constraints — atomic items in lists, schema-locked configs data/aesthetic_capsules.json, data/sage_brand_contract.json, .brand-gen/brands/<brand>/custom-scratchpad.json, .brand-gen/brands/<brand>/aesthetic-preferences.json, .brand-gen/brands/<brand>/iteration-memory.json Typed bgen mutation verbs ONLY <brand>/mutations.jsonl ledger

Generation events stay in .brand-gen/brands/<brand>/runs/<workflow_id>.jsonl (per-workflow). State mutations go to .brand-gen/brands/<brand>/mutations.jsonl (per-brand, append-only).

Never-edit rules

These are hard rules. Violations break prompt assembly invariants.

  1. Never put brand-payload literals in brand_gen/*.py. No new SAGE_*, <BRAND>_*, or brand-coupled constants. The mechanism is brand-agnostic; payload lives in JSON or markdown.
  2. Never hand-edit .brand-gen/brands/<brand>/<contract>.json or data/*_brand_contract.json. Use the typed verb. The only exception is during a verb-development PR.
  3. Never edit data/aesthetic_capsules.json directly. Use bgen add-aesthetic-capsule.
  4. Never write to <brand>/mutations.jsonl or <brand>/runs/*.jsonl. They are append-only audit logs. Verbs and the pipeline runner write to them; nothing else.
  5. Read-only-after-launch markdown: if a voice/*.md file has frontmatter read_only_after: <git-sha>, edits require human review. The verbose CLI greeting will warn agents about this.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
