CLAUDE.md

youtube-to-knowledge CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from velmighty/youtube-to-knowledge. It costs 290 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Instructions for a tool that turns YouTube videos into written transcripts, summaries, and an interactive knowledge graph. A knowledge graph maps connections between people, topics, and other entities.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them to process YouTube links, create summaries and transcripts, build relationship graphs, and ask questions about processed videos.
Why use it?
They provide a defined process and file structure for turning video content into information that can be searched and explored.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00290 $0.00290
Opus 5 $0.00145 $0.00145
Sonnet 5 $0.00058 $0.00058
Haiku 4.5 $0.00029 $0.00029

Measured 7d ago against content hash f6d611d12463, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

youtube-to-knowledge CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

youtube-to-knowledge

A Claude Code tool that converts YouTube videos into structured knowledge: transcript, summary, and interactive knowledge graph.

Quick start

/process https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID

That's it. Claude handles the rest.

What happens

  1. Transcript is fetched (fast mode via YouTube API, or local Whisper as fallback)
  2. A structured summary is generated in the video's language
  3. A knowledge graph is built from entities and relationships
  4. Everything is saved to vault/content/<channel_name>/

Commands

  • /process <url> — main command, processes a video end-to-end
  • /video_specialist — deep-dive questions about a specific video's content
  • /kg_navigator — explore connections between entities across videos

Output structure

vault/content/<channel>/
  raw/
    transcript_raw.txt
    metadata.json
  summary.md
  triplets.json
  graph.json
  graph.html ← open in browser

Two transcription modes

Mode When Command
Fast Video has subtitles python src/transcribe.py <url>
Whisper No subtitles / better accuracy python src/transcribe_whisper.py <url>

The /process command tries fast mode first and falls back to Whisper automatically.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
