ragfs: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

ragfs AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from Venere-Labs/ragfs. It costs 1,174 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Repository instructions for RAGFS, a Rust file system that finds files by meaning using text extraction, vector embeddings, and search. RAG means retrieving relevant information before an AI generates an answer.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when building, testing, formatting, debugging, or running RAGFS and its command-line search tools.
Why use it?
It records the build, test, formatting, and run commands so changes can be checked consistently across the Rust workspace.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01174 $0.01174
Opus 5.5 $0.00470 $0.00470
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00235 $0.00235
Haiku 4.5 $0.00117 $0.00117

Measured 1mo ago against content hash 042c9622021a, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

ragfs AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Architecture

RAGFS is a FUSE filesystem for semantic search using vector embeddings. It's organized as a Rust workspace with 10 crates plus a Python MCP server, following a pipeline pattern:

File → Extraction → Chunking → Embedding → Storage → Search

Crate hierarchy:

  • ragfs - CLI binary (entry: crates/ragfs/src/main.rs)
  • ragfs-core - Foundation traits and types (traits.rs, types.rs)
  • ragfs-extract - Content extraction via ExtractorRegistry
  • ragfs-chunker - Document chunking via ChunkerRegistry
  • ragfs-embed - Local embeddings using Candle (gte-small, 384-dim)
  • ragfs-store - Vector storage with LanceDB
  • ragfs-index - Pipeline orchestration and file watching
  • ragfs-query - Query execution
  • ragfs-fuse - FUSE filesystem with agent operations, safety layer, and semantic features
  • ragfs-python - PyO3 bindings; Haystack / LangChain / LlamaIndex adapters live under crates/ragfs-python/python/ragfs/
  • ragfs-mcp - Python MCP server (crates/ragfs-mcp, not a Cargo member)

ragfs-fuse modules:

  • filesystem.rs - Main FUSE handler, inode management, virtual directory routing
  • ops.rs - OpsManager for file operations with JSON feedback (.ops/)
  • safety.rs - SafetyManager for soft delete, audit logging, undo (.safety/)
  • semantic.rs - SemanticManager for AI-powered file operations (.semantic/)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
