CLAUDE.md

mcp-server-manager CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from vlazic/mcp-server-manager. It costs 3,838 tokens per session, scanned B, original, MIT.

Repository instructions for developing MCP Server Manager, a Go web app that keeps Model Context Protocol server settings in one YAML file and syncs them to multiple AI clients.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing MCP Server Manager, especially when editing its configuration handling, web interface, client synchronization, or development workflow.
Why use it?
It gives coding agents the project overview, required conventions, and important commands so they can work consistently without manually checking scattered guidance.

This is vlazic/mcp-server-manager's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on mcp-server-manager itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything mcp-server-manager configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.03838 $0.03838
Opus 5 $0.01919 $0.01919
Sonnet 5 $0.00768 $0.00768
Haiku 4.5 $0.00384 $0.00384

Security

Grade B, and why

mcp-server-manager CLAUDE.md scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

.claude/, .codex/, .gemini/ hold keys, settings and other credentials a mod has no legitimate need for.

Project Overview

MCP Server Manager is a Go web application that centralizes management of Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers across multiple AI clients. It solves the problem of manually editing various JSON files for different MCP clients by providing a single YAML configuration file and web interface.

Key Features:

  • Single binary with embedded assets (no external dependencies)
  • Cross-platform support (Linux, macOS, Windows)
  • Real-time web interface with HTMX
  • Dark/light theme system with manual override and system preference detection
  • Automatic client config synchronization
  • Server order preservation in UI and configuration
  • Systemd integration for auto-start

Development Guidelines

Important Development Notes

  • DO NOT run make run - The development server is already running in the background
  • DO NOT include Claude Code attribution in git commits - Use semantic commit messages instead
  • Use semantic git commit format: feat:, fix:, docs:, refactor:, chore:, etc.
  • Example: feat: add syntax highlighting to config viewer instead of generic attribution
  • After completing a task, ask for confirmation then check it in the TODO list below and suggest the commit message

Core Commands

  • make build - Build the binary to bin/mcp-server-manager (single binary with embedded assets)
  • make test - Run all Go tests
  • make test-coverage - Run tests with coverage report (generates coverage.out for SonarQube)
  • make install-deps - Download and organize Go dependencies
  • make setup - Complete production setup (build, install systemd user service, enable, start)
  • make logs-service - View systemd user service logs in real-time
  • make status-service - Check systemd user service status
  • make sync-assets - Sync web assets from web/ to internal/assets/web/ for embedding
  • make test-release - Build local .deb package, install, and restart service for testing
  • make release VERSION=x.x.x - Create git tag and trigger GitHub Actions release
  • make clean - Remove build artifacts and coverage files

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
