Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.01180 $0.01180
Opus 5 $0.00590 $0.00590
Sonnet 5 $0.00236 $0.00236
Haiku 4.5 $0.00118 $0.00118

Measured 3d ago against content hash 45a5eaee76b1, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

mcp-atlassian copilot-instructions.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

MCP Atlassian - Development Guide

Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Atlassian products (Jira & Confluence). Python ≥3.10.

Build, Test, and Lint

Dependencies:

uv sync --frozen --all-extras --dev # Install all dependencies

Code Quality (required before commit):

pre-commit run --all-files # Run all checks: ruff, prettier, mypy

Testing:

# Run all tests
uv run pytest

# Run with coverage
uv run pytest --cov=mcp_atlassian

# Run single test file
uv run pytest tests/unit/test_preprocessing.py

# Run single test function
uv run pytest tests/unit/test_preprocessing.py::test_specific_function

Running the Server:

uv run mcp-atlassian # Start MCP server
uv run mcp-atlassian --oauth-setup # OAuth configuration wizard
uv run mcp-atlassian -v # Verbose logging mode

Architecture

Mixin-Based Composition

Functionality is organized into focused mixins that compose together:

  • Jira: JiraFetcher inherits from 13 feature mixins (ProjectsMixin, IssuesMixin, WorklogMixin, etc.)
  • Confluence: ConfluenceFetcher inherits from 7 feature mixins (SearchMixin, PagesMixin, SpacesMixin, etc.)

Each mixin lives in its own module under src/mcp_atlassian/jira/ or src/mcp_atlassian/confluence/.

Client + Fetcher Pattern

  • Client classes (JiraClient, ConfluenceClient): Authentication, configuration, and API session management
  • Fetcher classes (JiraFetcher, ConfluenceFetcher): Business operations by composing mixins; inherit from Client

Protocol-Based Dependencies

Mixins declare dependencies via Protocol interfaces instead of direct imports:

class IssuesMixin(AttachmentsOperationsProto, FieldsOperationsProto):
    # Mixin knows it needs attachment and field operations
    # Protocols define the contract without circular imports

The final Fetcher class satisfies all protocols through multiple inheritance.

Data Models

  • All models extend ApiModel base class with from_api_response() for deserialization
  • Use TimestampMixin for timestamp handling across Jira/Confluence models
  • Models support to_simplified_dict() for MCP tool responses
  • Located in src/mcp_atlassian/models/

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
