toofan AGENTS.md

A project guide for Toofan, an offline terminal typing test written in Go with a text-based interface.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to build or run the program, check Go code, or change typing logic, statistics, profiles, themes, storage, and terminal screens.
Why use it?
It explains how the application is built, where its game and user-data code lives, and that it has no external services or network calls.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.01242 $0.01242
Opus 5 $0.00621 $0.00621
Sonnet 5 $0.00248 $0.00248
Haiku 4.5 $0.00124 $0.00124

Security

Grade A, and why

toofan AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Overview

Toofan is a terminal typing test written in Go. It uses Bubble Tea for the TUI and Lipgloss for styling. Everything runs offline — words, code snippets, themes, and user data are all local.

Build & Run

go build -o toofan . # compile binary
go run . # run without building
go vet ./... # lint check before committing

There are no external services, databases, or network calls. User data lives in ~/.config/toofan/ as local JSON/JSONL files.

Project Structure

main.go Entry point. Initializes Bubble Tea program.
internal/
  game/
game.go Core game logic: typing, backspace, stats, timer.
storage.go All file I/O: config, results, PBs, backups.
  tui/
model.go Bubble Tea model, Update loop, View dispatch.
typing.go Typing screen: input handling, live WPM, progress bar.
    results.go Post-test results screen.
profile.go Profile dashboard: overview, PBs, ranks, history, heatmap.
text.go Text rendering: syntax coloring, word wrapping, cursor.
picker.go Picker overlays: language, lesson, theme, duration.
  lang/
lang.go Loads embedded word lists and code snippets from data/.
    data/<language>/ One directory per language.
words.txt Word list (one word per line, english only).
lessons/<topic>.go Code lessons (hand-written, not generated).
  theme/
theme.go Palette struct, All slice, Next/ByName helpers.
<name>.go One file per theme. Each exports a single Palette var.

Architecture Rules

  • game/ has zero UI dependencies. It must never import tui/, theme/, or lipgloss.
  • tui/ reads game state through accessors (g.Text(), g.Input(), g.Errors()). It never touches game internals directly.
  • All file I/O is centralized in storage.go. No file reads/writes anywhere else.
  • lang/ uses embed.FS to bake data files into the binary at compile time. No runtime file system access for content.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

toofan AGENTS.md is an instructions file published in the GitHub repository vyrx-dev/toofan (314 stars, last pushed 26d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 1,242 tokens to every session, about $0.0062 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
