mcp-browser: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

mcp-browser CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from wgarrido/mcp-browser. It costs 148 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Instructions for using a browser proxy that routes web requests through Chrome. MCP is a way for an AI agent to call external tools, and CDP is the connection method used to control Chrome.

In plain words
What is it for?
It covers searching for pages, fetching and reading search results, taking screenshots, and fetching several pages when comparing websites.
Why use it?
It gives web research a defined process and can use the user's existing browser cookies and sessions when websites block automated requests.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00148 $0.00148
Opus 5 $0.00074 $0.00074
Sonnet 5 $0.00030 $0.00030
Haiku 4.5 $0.00015 $0.00015

Measured 7d ago against content hash 07a3d758d383, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

mcp-browser CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Browser MCP Proxy

This project is an MCP server that routes web requests through Chrome via CDP.

Using browser-proxy tools

When asked to search the web or browse pages, prefer the browser-proxy MCP tools over built-in tools:

  • Use web_search for web searches, then always follow up with fetch_page on the top results to read the actual content.
  • Use fetch_page or fetch_readable to read web pages.
  • Use screenshot to capture visual snapshots of pages.
  • Use multi_fetch when comparing multiple URLs.

The browser-proxy tools use the user's real Chrome browser with their cookies and sessions, which avoids anti-bot blocks.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
