json2tmux CLAUDE.md

json2tmux CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for coding agents from wricardo/json2tmux. It costs 485 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Instructions for json2tmux, a command-line tool that reads a JSON description and outputs Bash commands for creating a tmux session. Tmux is a terminal tool for managing multiple windows and split panes in one session.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing the Go program, defining JSON session layouts, building the tool, or testing the complete JSON-to-Bash workflow.
Why use it?
It explains the input structure and output behavior so agents do not expect the tool to call tmux directly. It also documents how sessions, windows, panes, directories, and splits map to one another.

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00485 $0.00485
Opus 5 $0.00243 $0.00243
Sonnet 5 $0.00097 $0.00097
Haiku 4.5 $0.00049 $0.00049

Measured 5d ago against content hash 3b04d82da67a, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

json2tmux CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

CLAUDE.md

This file provides guidance to Claude Code (claude.ai/code) when working with code in this repository.

What it does

Reads a JSON session descriptor (from file arg, -f flag, or stdin), outputs bash commands that create a tmux session. Pipe output to bash.

json2tmux examples/example1.json | bash
tmux attach -t Example1

Commands

go build . # build binary
json2tmux examples/example1.json | bash # run end-to-end
go test ./... # run tests

Architecture

Single main.go. Three types:

  • Session — top-level: name, directory, list of windows. Calls gomux.KillSession then gomux.NewSessionAttr.
  • Window — holds one root Pane, optional directory. Maps to a tmux window.
  • Pane — recursive: Command, Directory, SplitType ("horizontal" or "vertical"), Split []*Pane. Splits are created depth-first via SplitPane().

Depends on github.com/wricardo/gomux — a thin wrapper that writes tmux shell commands to an io.Writer. The output is bash, not direct tmux calls.

SplitType default (anything not "horizontal") = vertical split.

CLI flags

  • Positional arg or -f <file>: read session JSON from file instead of stdin
  • -exec: execute tmux commands directly via bash -s — no pipe needed
  • -attach: append/run tmux attach -t <name>
  • -dry-run: print bash commands for inspection
  • --help / -h: print usage and schema reference

Documentation rules

After every code change, update the relevant docs:

  • README.md — usage, flags, examples, schema
  • CLAUDE.md — commands, architecture, CLI flags
  • FAQ.md — if behavior or common questions change
  • GLOSSARY.md — if new terms are introduced
  • examples/ — add or update example JSON if new features affect session structure
  • main_test.go — add tests for any new behavior
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
