connectwise-automate-mcp: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

connectwise-automate-mcp CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from WYRE-AI/connectwise-automate-mcp. It costs 498 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

Project instructions for developing a ConnectWise Automate MCP server, a service that lets AI tools work with ConnectWise Automate. They document testing, building, package access, and known API filtering rules.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them while implementing or reviewing this TypeScript server, running its tests and checks, and adding supported Automate routes.
Why use it?
They reduce mistakes when changing routes, dependencies, generated files, or filters that the API may otherwise ignore silently.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00498 $0.00498
Opus 5.5 $0.00199 $0.00199
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00100 $0.00100
Haiku 4.5 $0.00050 $0.00050

Security

Grade A, and why

connectwise-automate-mcp CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

connectwise-automate-mcp

MCP server over @wyre-ai/node-connectwise-automate. The client library, not this server, owns the knowledge of which Automate routes exist; when a tool needs something the library lacks, check the library's CLAUDE.md and the official swagger before adding a route here.

Working here

  • npm test (vitest, SDK mocked per domain), npm run typecheck, npm run lint, npm run build (tsc; the device-card HTML is a committed generated file).
  • CHANGELOG.md is hand-maintained (keepachangelog); add to [Unreleased].
  • @wyre-ai/* and @wyre-technology/* both resolve to GitHub Packages via the project .npmrc; installs need a token with read:packages in NODE_AUTH_TOKEN (gh auth refresh -s read:packages locally; GITHUB_TOKEN in CI).

Learnings - 2026-09-08

  • Filtering on Automate list routes is only possible through the condition expression. Any other filter sent as a query parameter is silently ignored and the route returns everything — this bit cwautomate_scripts_list (name), the alert filters, the client filter on locations and folder_id. Build conditions with src/utils/odata.ts (containsCondition, equalsCondition, andConditions).
  • There is no reboot route. A reboot is a catalog command (GET /Commands → POST /Computers/{id}/CommandExecute), and catalog ids/names are instance-defined, so cwautomate_computers_reboot auto-resolves by name and accepts an explicit command_id.
  • Alerts are read-only in the API and carry no status field; the acknowledge tool was calling a route that does not exist.
  • Script and command results: commands are correlated by the execution id Automate returns; script runs have no handle at all and are recovered from ScriptHistory by identity against a pre-launch baseline.
  • results.ts tolerates both a bare array and a { Data } envelope on purpose; since library v3 the wire shape is always the bare array.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
