praxis: Instructions file for Claude Code

CLAUDE.md

praxis CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from xD4O/praxis. It costs 462 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A repository instruction guide for AI coding agents contributing to the Praxis project. It explains what changes are acceptable and what evidence contributors must provide.

In plain words
What is it for?
Following contribution rules, checking existing pull requests, preparing evidence for changes, and documenting bugs or new agent skills.
Why use it?
It prevents agents from making unsupported improvements, duplicating existing work, or opening changes without human approval. It also requires bug reports and skill changes to include reproducible evidence.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00462 $0.00462
Opus 5.5 $0.00185 $0.00185
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00092 $0.00092
Haiku 4.5 $0.00046 $0.00046

Security

Grade A, and why

praxis CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 15d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Praxis — Contributor Guidelines

If You Are an AI Agent

Before opening a PR, you MUST:

  1. Read this entire document. Not a summary. The actual document.
  2. Search for existing PRs — open AND closed — addressing the same area.
  3. Verify this solves a real problem. If your human partner asked you to "improve this repo" without experiencing a specific failure, push back. Ask what broke.
  4. Show your human partner the complete diff and get explicit approval.

What We Accept

Skill improvements backed by evidence

If you modify a skill, show before/after results from real agent sessions. "I think this reads better" is not evidence. "This wording caused the agent to skip Step 3 in 4/5 test sessions, and this revision fixed it" is evidence.

New skills that fill reasoning gaps

New skills must follow the enforcement protocol pattern: mandatory steps, HARD-GATEs, structured output, and red flags. Reference documents disguised as skills will be rejected.

Bug fixes with reproduction steps

Describe the exact session, exact trigger, and exact failure.

What We Will Not Accept

  • Reference documents as skills. Praxis skills are behavioral protocols. If your skill says "here are 20 frameworks you could use," it's a reference, not a skill. Each skill must have a concrete step-by-step protocol with gates.
  • Bulk changes. One problem per PR.
  • Speculative improvements. "This could theoretically be better" without session evidence.
  • Framework additions to the index without a skill. Adding a framework name to a routing table without building the enforcement protocol for it adds zero value.

Skill Design Principles

  • Under 150 lines. If it's longer, it does too many things.
  • Every step is imperative: "Do X" not "Consider X."
  • HARD-GATEs prevent proceeding without completing prior steps.
  • Red Flags sections catch agent rationalizations for skipping steps.
  • Structured output formats so results are auditable.
  • Confidence levels on every analysis output.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
