A set of instructions for OpenAI Codex and similar coding agents to create a complete design system from a brand color, including palettes, tokens, themes, components, and a preview.

In plain words
What is it for?
Setting up color and semantic tokens, CSS variables, light and dark modes, standard UI components, and a self-contained HTML preview.
Why use it?
It provides an ordered workflow so the design system is consistent and its generated files can be reviewed visually.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00504 $0.00504
Opus 5 $0.00252 $0.00252
Sonnet 5 $0.00101 $0.00101
Haiku 4.5 $0.00050 $0.00050

Measured 7d ago against content hash ece246276c8d, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

design-system-generator-skill AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Skill: Design System Generator

When the user asks to create a design system, generate a color palette, build a theme, create UI tokens, or set up brand styles, follow the workflow defined in:

Main instructions: skills/design-system-generator/SKILL.md

Quick Reference

This skill generates a complete, production-ready design system from a single brand color:

  1. Brand Input → Collect brand color (hex/rgb/oklch), font family, border radius style
  2. Color System → OKLCH palettes: primary (10 steps), neutral (10 steps), semantic (success/warning/error/info)
  3. Tokens → W3C Design Tokens JSON + CSS custom properties with Light/Dark theme support
  4. Components → Button, Card, Input, Badge, Alert, Avatar, Skeleton, Tooltip, Modal, Navbar, Divider
  5. Preview → Self-contained HTML preview page with theme toggle

skills/design-system-generator/references/component-patterns.md CSS patterns for each component
skills/design-system-generator/references/dark-mode-guide.md light-dark(), theme toggle, semantic token mapping

Output Structure

design-system/
├── tokens.json # W3C Design Tokens
├── tokens.css # CSS Custom Properties
├── components.css # Component styles
└── preview.html # Visual preview page

Key Constraints

  • All colors MUST use OKLCH color space
  • Components MUST only use var(--token-name) — no hardcoded values
  • WCAG 2.2 AA contrast compliance required
  • Support Light and Dark themes via light-dark() + [data-theme]
  • Follow phases in order, confirm with user between phases

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
