diaphora-mcp: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

diaphora-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from xTeardx/diaphora-mcp. It costs 699 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Instructions for a local MCP server that exports IDA databases, compares Diaphora analysis files, and examines differences between software versions. IDA is a reverse-engineering tool, and Diaphora compares its database analyses.

In plain words
What is it for?
Exporting IDA data, comparing old and new Diaphora results, summarising function changes, and analysing mapped call graphs.
Why use it?
They define the input files, comparison direction, address-mapping rules, and export requirements needed for reliable binary-difference analysis.

This is xTeardx/diaphora-mcp's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on diaphora-mcp itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything diaphora-mcp configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00699 $0.00699
Opus 5 $0.00349 $0.00349
Sonnet 5 $0.00140 $0.00140
Haiku 4.5 $0.00070 $0.00070

Security

Grade A, and why

diaphora-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Diaphora MCP — agent instructions

Mission

This repository provides a local stdio MCP server for exporting IDA databases, comparing Diaphora SQLite exports, and analyzing diff results.

Source map

  • diaphora_mcp_server.py: top-level stdio entry point.
  • diaphora_mcp/: MCP registration and implementation.
  • diaphora_mcp/core/export.py: export modes and batch pipeline.
  • diaphora_mcp/core/diff.py: result reading and summaries.
  • diaphora_mcp/core/analysis.py: matching and function comparison.
  • diaphora_mcp/core/graph.py: mapped call-graph analysis.
  • _diaphora_headless.py: IDA headless wrapper.
  • diaphora_gui_listener.py: optional legacy GUI bridge.
  • tests/: tracked synthetic regression tests.
  • docs/: user-facing and maintenance documentation.

Data contract

  1. .i64/.idb is an IDA database, not SQLite.
  2. Results tools accept only generated .diaphora.sqlite and .diaphora files.
  3. For comparisons, old input is primary and new input is secondary.
  4. When image bases differ, use match_results_path to map old addresses to new addresses.
  5. batch_export_and_diff must use export_mode="headless".

Export rules

  • headless: deterministic idat.exe export with official diff-schema validation.
  • auto: active GUI bridge first, then headless fallback.
  • gui: active GUI bridge only; it must not silently fall back.
  • Never overwrite an existing generated target.
  • Keep output below DIAPHORA_OUTPUT_ROOT.
  • Do not pass user IDBs or generated SQLite files into Git.

Change protocol

Before a non-trivial change:

  1. Inspect git status --short, current branch, and relevant tests.
  2. Write a focused plan identifying files, failure mode, and verification.
  3. For behavior changes, write a regression test first and reproduce the failure.
  4. Make the smallest compatible patch.
  5. Run the full suite, compilation check, and git diff --check.

Do not use git reset --hard, git clean -fd, force-push, or broad deletion of fixtures.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
