yantrikdb: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

yantrikdb AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from yantrikos/yantrikdb. It costs 512 tokens per session, scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A repository guide for AI coding agents working on YantrikDB, a Rust memory engine. It explains setup, project structure, coding conventions, and checks to run before a pull request.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to set up YantrikDB, run its Rust tests and checks, and make changes consistently across its Rust, Python, and WebAssembly parts.
Why use it?
It prevents agents from guessing how the project is built or what contributors must check. It also records important differences between build configurations and language bindings.

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions Claude Code; mentions AGENTS.md; mentions Codex.

This is yantrikos/yantrikdb's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on yantrikdb itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything yantrikdb configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00512 $0.00512
Opus 5.5 $0.00205 $0.00205
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00102 $0.00102
Haiku 4.5 $0.00051 $0.00051

Measured 11d ago against content hash 99f31aedc0ec, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

yantrikdb AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What this is

YantrikDB is the Rust cognitive-memory engine behind yantrikdb-server and yantrikdb-mcp. Apache-2.0, no CLA, no copyright assignment.

Setup

git clone https://github.com/yantrikos/yantrikdb
cd yantrikdb
cargo test --workspace

A default cargo build has no network code path: the embedder-download feature is off, so with_default() uses the bundled 64-dim potion-base-2M. The Python wheel turns that feature on, which is why pip users get the 256-dim potion-base-8M default instead. If you're touching embedder code, build both configurations:

cargo build --features embedder-download
cargo build --no-default-features # slim: no bundled embedder at all

Python bindings live in crates/yantrikdb-python (pyo3 + maturin). The wasm build used by the in-browser demo is crates/yantrikdb-wasm.

Before opening a PR

Both of these must pass — they're also what CI runs:

cargo fmt --all -- --check
cargo clippy --all-targets --all-features --workspace --exclude yantrikdb-python -- --cap-lints warn
cargo test --workspace

cargo fmt --all (no --check) and the clippy line above are the two that fail most often locally; run them before testing.

Conventions

  • One logical change per PR, squash-merged into main (branch-protected).
  • Add or extend a test that fails without your change — concurrency and temporal-decay behavior is easy to break by accident; see CONCURRENCY.md for the invariants.
  • Describe what you observed, not only what you changed.
  • If picking up an existing issue, say so on the issue first.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
