academic-writing-toolkit: Instructions file for Gemini CLI

GEMINI.md

academic-writing-toolkit GEMINI.md is an instructions file for Gemini CLI from yha9806/academic-writing-toolkit. It costs 445 tokens per session, scanned A, a copy of academic-writing-toolkit AGENTS.md, MIT.

A set of instructions for using a structured toolkit to research and write an academic thesis, with separate folders for chapters, source PDFs, reading notes, and final output.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to organise thesis research, record notes for literature sources, draft chapters, track word targets, and prepare Harvard-style citations.
Why use it?
It keeps research notes and chapter editing in a defined order, while setting word-count, reading, language, and citation rules. It helps prevent writing from getting ahead of source review.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00445 $0.00445
Opus 5 $0.00222 $0.00222
Sonnet 5 $0.00089 $0.00089
Haiku 4.5 $0.00044 $0.00044

Security

Grade A, and why

academic-writing-toolkit GEMINI.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Academic Writing Project

Configuration for Gemini CLI.

Skill Discovery

Project skills are directories under .agents/skills/, each with SKILL.md, linked to canonical sources in .claude/skills/. A text file containing a link target is not a usable skill. Run node scripts/setup.mjs after cloning; on Windows it creates ignored awt-local-* junction aliases when Git flattens symlinks. node scripts/setup.mjs doctor checks actual link targets. Resolve a selected skill's directory link before following relative resource paths.

Project Overview

This project uses the academic-writing-toolkit skills for structured research and thesis writing.

Reading Constraints

  • Max pages per read invocation: 15
  • Max pages per conversation: 90
  • Always complete reading notes before modifying chapters

Writing Principles

  • Read first, write later — finish reading notes before editing chapters
  • Each source must have an independent notes file in literature/reading_notes/
  • Use British English for thesis text
  • Notes files follow the standardised format (see literature/reading_notes/_template_NOTES.md)

Citation

  • Citation style: harvard
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
