ebay-mcp: Instructions file for Codex

AGENTS.md

ebay-mcp AGENTS.md is an instructions file for Codex, OpenCode from YosefHayim/ebay-mcp. It costs 2,119 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

Contributor instructions for a TypeScript/Node.js server exposing eBay selling APIs through MCP, a standard way for AI tools to call external services. They explain the project structure, coding rules, documentation sources, and validation commands.

In plain words
What is it for?
They help maintain the server, add or update eBay API tools, follow its type and module conventions, and run the appropriate checks.
Why use it?
They tell contributors where the main code lives, which guidance to read, and how to validate changes before considering them complete.

Written for Codex and OpenCode: the file is AGENTS.md. Also seen: mentions CLAUDE.md; mentions Claude Code; mentions AGENTS.md.

This is YosefHayim/ebay-mcp's own configuration. It tells Codex and OpenCode how to work on ebay-mcp itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything ebay-mcp configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.02119 $0.02119
Opus 5 $0.01059 $0.01059
Sonnet 5 $0.00424 $0.00424
Haiku 4.5 $0.00212 $0.00212

Measured 8d ago against content hash 8c0615f34533, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

ebay-mcp AGENTS.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 109 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

AGENTS.md

Guidance for coding agents (and humans) working on this repo. For using the server, see README.md.

What this is

A local MCP server exposing 299 tools across 100% of eBay's Sell APIs. TypeScript/Node.js (ESM), built with @modelcontextprotocol/sdk, Effect-backed validation, a Zod SDK adapter, and OpenAPI-generated types.

  • Entry points: src/index.ts (STDIO transport — default) and src/serverHttp.ts (HTTP transport).
  • Runtime: Node.js ≥ 20. Package manager: pnpm ([email protected]); npm scripts work too.

Instruction sources

  • Shared agent contract: this AGENTS.md.
  • Claude Code: CLAUDE.md imports AGENTS.md; keep Claude-only notes there only when needed.
  • GitHub Copilot: .github/copilot-instructions.md keeps Copilot-specific reminders and points back here.
  • Code style: CODE-STYLE.md owns the full rules; the digest below must stay aligned with it.
  • Domain/architecture read order: CONTEXT.md, LANGUAGE.md, ARCHITECTURE.md, then relevant ADRs in docs/adr/current/.
  • User docs: README.md is for installing and using the server, not contributor or agent rules.
  • Other agent surfaces: add GEMINI.md, .cursor/rules, .kiro/steering, or .roo/rules* only for genuinely tool-specific or path-scoped behavior.

Validation commands

Run before opening a PR:

npm run typecheck # tsc --noEmit (src) — must pass
npm run check:ci # biome ci . (lint + format) — must pass
npm test # vitest run (unit) — must pass
npm run test:integration # vitest (hermetic integration suite) — must pass
npm run build # tsc + tsc-alias + UI bundle → build/ — must pass

CI runs exactly these behind one CI Gate status check — see docs/adr/current/0004-ci-workflow-architecture.md. The typecheck leg now also covers ui/ (npm run typecheck:ui), so npm run check and npm run verify run the whole gate end-to-end.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
