CLAUDE.md

D365FO-claude-connector CLAUDE.md is an instructions file for Claude Code from zhound420/D365FO-claude-connector. It costs 1,582 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A project instruction file for a server that lets Claude interact with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, a business-management system. It documents supported environments, safety rules, build commands, and the code structure.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when building, running, or changing this connector, including its TypeScript code, environment handling, data queries, and tools.
Why use it?
It gives the coding assistant the project context needed to work consistently and keeps production environments read-only.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.01582 $0.01582
Opus 5 $0.00791 $0.00791
Sonnet 5 $0.00316 $0.00316
Haiku 4.5 $0.00158 $0.00158

Security

Grade A, and why

D365FO-claude-connector CLAUDE.md scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Project Overview

This is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that enables Claude to interact with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations environments. It supports:

  • Multi-environment configuration - Connect to multiple D365 environments (production, UAT, dev)
  • Read operations - Query data on all environments
  • Write operations - Create/update/delete records on non-production environments only
  • Production safety - Production environments are always read-only by design

Build Commands

npm run build # Compile TypeScript to dist/
npm run dev # Watch mode - recompile on changes
npm start # Run the compiled server

No test or lint commands are configured.

Architecture

index.ts (entry)
    ├── EnvironmentManager
    │   ├── D365Client (per environment)
    │   └── MetadataCache (per environment)
    │
    ├── Resources (d365://entities, d365://entity/{name}, d365://enums, d365://queries)
    │   └── Uses default environment's MetadataCache
    │
    └── Tools (all support optional 'environment' parameter)
        ├── Read Tools: describe_entity, execute_odata, aggregate, search_entity, etc.
        └── Write Tools: create_record, update_record, delete_record (non-production only)

Core Components:

  • environment-manager.ts - Manages multiple D365Client instances, enforces write guards
  • config-loader.ts - Loads JSON config with fallback to legacy env vars
  • d365-client.ts - Authenticated OData HTTP client with read/write methods
  • auth.ts - TokenManager for OAuth2 client credentials flow with auto-refresh
  • metadata-cache.ts - Two-tier metadata loading (fast entity names ~1s, full EDMX ~30-60s) with 24h TTL

Resources (src/resources/) - Schema discovery endpoints for Claude to understand D365 structure

Tools (src/tools/) - Data access operations. Each tool is registered via:

export function register[ToolName]Tool(server: McpServer, envManager: EnvironmentManager): void {
  server.tool("tool_name", "description", { /* Zod schema */ }, async (params, extra) => {
    const client = envManager.getClient(params.environment);
    // ... handler
  });
}

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
