airweave-overview

airweave-overview is a cursor rule for Cursor from airweave-ai/airweave. It costs 434 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

An open-source platform makes information from many applications searchable by an AI agent. It syncs data from sources, processes it into searchable knowledge, and serves results to agents; a monorepo means the backend, frontend, workers, and server code live in one repository.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to synchronize data from services and files, keep indexes updated manually or on a schedule, and let agents search the resulting knowledge.
Why use it?
It removes the need to build separate data-import and search integrations for every application an agent needs to use.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00434 $0.00434
Opus 5 $0.00217 $0.00217
Sonnet 5 $0.00087 $0.00087
Haiku 4.5 $0.00043 $0.00043

Security

Grade A, and why

airweave-overview scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Airweave Overview

What is Airweave?

Airweave is an open-source platform that makes any app searchable for your agent by syncing data from various sources with minimal configuration for agentic search. It serves as a bridge between your data sources and agents, transforming raw data into queryable knowledge.

There is an adjacent repository called infra-core which manages all the infrastructure.

Architecture

  • Monorepo: Python FastAPI backend + React/TypeScript frontend + Python Temporal workers + Node.js MCP server
  • Data Flow: Sources → Processing → Vector/Graph DBs → Agent Queries
  • MCP Integration: Streamable HTTP transport (MCP 2025-03-26) for cloud-based AI assistants (OpenAI Agent Builder, etc.)
  • Tested with Monke (internal E2E testing framework)

Technical Capabilities

  • Data synchronization configuration via UI or API
  • Multi-tenant architecture with OAuth2
  • Entity extraction and transformation pipeline
  • Sync triggers: manual, scheduled, or API-driven
  • Incremental updates using content hashing
  • Scales from local development to production environments

Data Sources

Airweave can extract and process data from:

  • API endpoints (REST) / Productivity and collaboration tools
  • Relational databases
  • Document stores
  • File systems and storage services

Technology Implementation

  • Backend: FastAPI with PostgreSQL metadata store
  • Frontend: React/TypeScript with ShadCN components
  • MCP Server: Node.js with stdio (local) and Streamable HTTP (hosted) transports for AI assistant integration
  • Storage: Qdrant (will add more, DWH-type storage later)
  • Deployment: Docker Compose (dev), Kubernetes (prod)
  • Processing: Async workers with Temporal
  • Messages: Redis PubSub
  • Documentation: Fern

For Developers

  • Local setup uses Docker Compose
  • Prod setup with Kubernetes (upcoming)
  • Configuration via environment variables
  • Extensible for custom sources and destinations
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
