003-playwright-cucumber-conventions

003-playwright-cucumber-conventions is a cursor rule for Cursor from azam-sdet/10xquality. It costs 0 tokens per session (1,494 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of project rules for building browser tests with Playwright and Cucumber using readable Given/When/Then scenarios. It explains how test steps connect through a shared bridge to page objects and helper utilities.

In plain words
What is it for?
Creating Cucumber feature files, step-definition files, page objects, and bridge registrations in a TypeScript test project.
Why use it?
It gives contributors one structure to follow when adding tests, which reduces confusion about where feature files, step definitions, and page objects belong.

Cursor rule for Cursor

Written for Cursor: a Cursor rule (.mdc).

Needs its repository: it reads a path above its own folder, which exists only inside the repository. The line is import Bridge from '../../hooks/bridge';.

Good fit Creating Cucumber feature files, step-definition files, page objects, and bridge registrations in a TypeScript test project.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.01494
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00747
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00299
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00149

Security

Grade A, and why

003-playwright-cucumber-conventions scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Playwright + Cucumber BDD Framework Conventions

Architecture Pattern

This project uses the Bridge pattern for Playwright + Cucumber BDD testing:

Steps → Bridge → Page Objects + Helpers
                  ├── PlaywrightWrapper (click, fill, goto, wait)
                  ├── Assert (assertions)
                  ├── YamlHelper / JsonHelper (test data)
                  └── CommonHelper (utilities, random data)

Adding New Tests

  1. Feature file: Create src/test/features/<name>.feature using Gherkin syntax
  2. Step definitions: Create src/test/steps/<name>Step.ts, use Bridge to access page objects
  3. Page object: Create src/test/pages/<Name>Page.ts as singleton with PlaywrightWrapper
  4. Register page: Add the new page to src/hooks/bridge.ts

Step Definition Pattern

import { Given, When, Then, BeforeStep } from '@cucumber/cucumber';
import Bridge from '../../hooks/bridge';
import { fixture } from '../../hooks/pageFixture';

let bridge: Bridge;
BeforeStep(() => { bridge = new Bridge(fixture.page); });

Given('the user is on the home page', async function () {
  await bridge.base.goto(process.env.BASEURL!);
});

When('the user clicks {string}', async function (buttonText: string) {
  await bridge.homePage.clickButton(buttonText);
});

Then('the user sees {string}', async function (expectedText: string) {
  await bridge.assert.toContainText(expectedText);
});

Page Object Pattern

  • Singleton with getInstance(page)
  • Store private page: Page reference for direct Playwright API access when wrappers are insufficient
  • Use PlaywrightWrapper for simple interactions, direct page for complex ones
  • Store locators as class properties
import { Page } from '@playwright/test';
import PlaywrightWrapper from '../../helper/wrapper/PlaywrightWrappers';
import Assert from '../../helper/wrapper/assert';

export default class ExamplePage {
  private static instance: ExamplePage;
  private page: Page;
  base: PlaywrightWrapper;
  assert: Assert;

  private constructor(page: Page) {
    this.page = page;
    this.base = PlaywrightWrapper.getInstance(page);
    this.assert = Assert.getInstance(page);
  }

  public static getInstance(page: Page): ExamplePage {
    if (!ExamplePage.instance) {
      ExamplePage.instance = new ExamplePage(page);
    }
    return ExamplePage.instance;
  }

  async clickButton(text: string) {
    await this.page.getByRole('button', { name: text }).click();
  }
}

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

003-playwright-cucumber-conventions is a cursor rule published in the GitHub repository azam-sdet/10xquality (2 stars, last pushed 6mo ago), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 1,494 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
