Exile on N Street

The legacy type alias pub type N = usize in Types.rs conflates two roles:

  1. Indexing — array indices, lengths, capacities → usize (correct)
  2. Element values — sums, products, data stored in collections → should be u64 or i64

Rule: New Modules (Chap11+)

  • DO NOT use N as the element type for data values or arithmetic accumulators.
  • DO: Use u64 for unsigned element values, i64 for signed.
  • DO: Use usize only for indexing, lengths, and capacities.
  • DO: Use concrete types (u64, i64) directly — not a type alias.
