update-verus

update-verus is a cursor rule for Cursor from briangmilnes/APAS-VERUS. It costs 191 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A build rule for updating Verus, a tool that mathematically checks Rust programs. It describes the required source-build process and the custom vargo command used instead of Cargo.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when pulling updates or rebuilding Verus from source, including after a Rust toolchain change.
Why use it?
It helps avoid failed or incorrect builds caused by using ordinary Rust build commands for Verus itself.

Written for Cursor: installed under .cursor/.

Needs its repository: it reads a path above its own folder, which exists only inside the repository. The line is source ../tools/activate.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00191 $0.00191
Opus 5 $0.00096 $0.00096
Sonnet 5 $0.00038 $0.00038
Haiku 4.5 $0.00019 $0.00019

Measured 5d ago against content hash 24fc1138a6e1, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-09, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

update-verus scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Updating Verus

When updating or rebuilding the Verus project at ~/projects/verus:

  1. Read the build instructions first:

    • ~/projects/verus/INSTALL.md - overview and binary releases
    • ~/projects/verus/BUILD.md - building from source (this is what you need)
  2. The standard process is:

    cd ~/projects/verus
    git fetch && git pull
    cd source
    source ../tools/activate
    vargo build --release

  3. If the Rust toolchain version changed, install it first:

    rustup toolchain install

Do NOT use cargo build directly - Verus requires vargo for its custom build process.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
