changelog-and-tag

changelog-and-tag is a cursor rule for Cursor from electrikhq/slate. It costs 381 tokens per session, scanned A, original, MIT.

A rule that requires updating CHANGELOG.md and creating a matching Git tag whenever a release is shipped. A changelog records changes between versions, while a Git tag marks a specific version in the code history.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it during versioned releases of electrik/slate. It guides moving unreleased entries into the correct release section, updating the package version, and creating the matching annotated tag.
Why use it?
It prevents releases from having missing or mismatched version records. The project’s package version, changelog heading, release commit, and tag must agree.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00381 $0.00381
Opus 5 $0.00191 $0.00191
Sonnet 5 $0.00076 $0.00076
Haiku 4.5 $0.00038 $0.00038

Measured 10d ago against content hash 3aac2998ae39, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-09, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

changelog-and-tag scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Changelog + tag on ship

Whenever you ship, release, publish, or the user asks to commit a versioned release for electrik/slate:

  1. Changelog first — update CHANGELOG.md before the release commit:
    • Move items out of ## Unreleased into a new heading ## X.Y.Z[-suffix] - YYYY-MM-DD
    • Use Keep a Changelog groups: Added, Changed, Fixed, Deprecated, Removed, Security
    • Match the version in composer.json (version field)
  2. Commit the changelog (and version bump) with the release
  3. Tag with an annotated tag equal to that version string (prefer v prefix for stable (v3.0.0); historical alphas may omit it):
git tag -a "X.Y.Z-suffix" -m "Release X.Y.Z-suffix"
git push origin HEAD --tags
  1. Do not ship a package version bump without both the changelog section and the git tag
  2. Docs-only or WIP commits may land under ## Unreleased without a tag; creating a tag requires a changelog release section

Examples

  • Shipping 3.0.0 → CHANGELOG.md has ## [3.0.0] - 2026-…, composer.json says 3.0.0, tag v3.0.0
  • Bad: push a release commit with no changelog entry
  • Bad: create a tag that does not match composer.json / changelog heading
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
