cursorrules

A set of Cursor IDE rules for connecting to Jira, a tool for tracking software tasks and projects, through an MCP server. It defines how common Jira commands should be handled.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to list your tasks, inspect or update Jira issues, add comments, and move work through its workflow from Cursor.
Why use it?
It gives Cursor a consistent way to find issues, view details, update status, track time, and manage project work in Jira.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.01540 $0.01540
Opus 5 $0.00770 $0.00770
Sonnet 5 $0.00308 $0.00308
Haiku 4.5 $0.00154 $0.00154

Measured yesterday against content hash 65b913cf05e6, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

cursorrules scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Jira MCP Server - Cursor Rules

Project Overview

Jira Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Cursor IDE. Provides 31 tools for Jira integration including issue management, board operations, time tracking, and project management.

Key Commands

MCP Command: /jira

When user executes /jira command:

  1. WITHOUT parameters - ALWAYS use ONLY mcp_jira_get_my_issues_grouped() (1 request instead of 6)

    • Result: All open tasks grouped by status, sorted by priority
    • Fastest implementation - 5-6x faster than traditional approach
  2. WITH issue key (e.g., /jira RIVER-123) - use mcp_jira_get_issue_details()

    • After displaying issue, suggest quick actions:
      1. Form execution plan
      2. Return to author with questions
      3. Move to progress: mcp_jira_transition_issue()
      4. Complete: mcp_jira_transition_issue() or mcp_jira_complete_issue()
  3. WITH username/surname - Search for user, then show their issues

  4. WITH comment - /jira comment RIVER-123 "text"mcp_jira_add_comment()

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
