01-project

01-project is a cursor rule for Windsurf from hfredrick69/deep-research-mcp-server. It costs 0 tokens per session (1,187 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

Contributor rules for a deep-research MCP server, a program that lets an AI assistant call research tools through the Model Context Protocol. They describe the project layout, environment settings, TypeScript and Gemini usage, search providers, and structured output.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use them when working on the research pipeline, AI provider integration, search and scraping, text processing, command-line output, feedback, or MCP tools.
Why use it?
They give contributors a shared map of the code and the expected way to add or change research features without guessing how the server is assembled.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.01187
Opus 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00475
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00237
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00119

Measured yesterday against content hash 689f39095d8d, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

01-project scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

description: Deep Research MCP Server – Rules and integration guide

Deep Research MCP Server – Rules for Contributors

This document explains repo layout, environment, Gemini usage, search provider priority/fallbacks, and safe contribution steps for users.

  • Repo: deep-research-mcp-server/
  • Stack: Node.js 22.x, TypeScript 5.x
  • Key libs: @google/genai (Gemini), @mendable/firecrawl-js, @modelcontextprotocol/sdk, zod, lru-cache
  • Primary entry points:
    • CLI: src/run.ts
    • MCP server: src/mcp-server.ts
    • Core logic: src/deep-research.ts
    • AI wrapper: src/ai/providers.ts
    • Text splitting: src/ai/text-splitter.ts
    • Feedback: src/feedback.ts
    • Output/Progress: src/output-manager.ts, src/progress-manager.ts, src/terminal-utils.ts
    • Prompts: src/prompt.ts
    • Types/Utils: src/types.ts, src/utils/json.ts, src/utils/sanitize.ts

Environment & Config

  • Required: GEMINI_API_KEY
  • Optional: FIRECRAWL_API_KEY, FIRECRAWL_BASE_URL
  • Config:
    • GEMINI_MODEL (default: gemini-2.5-flash)
    • CONCURRENCY_LIMIT (default: 5)

Gemini SDK Usage (TypeScript)

Use the official Google Gen AI SDK @google/genai.

import { GoogleGenAI } from "@google/genai";

const client = new GoogleGenAI({
  apiKey: process.env.GEMINI_API_KEY!,
  ...(process.env.GEMINI_API_ENDPOINT ? { apiEndpoint: process.env.GEMINI_API_ENDPOINT } : {}),
});
const modelId = process.env.GEMINI_MODEL || "gemini-2.5-flash";
const model = client.getGenerativeModel({ model: modelId, systemInstruction: "You are a precise research assistant." });
  • Long context: prefer gemini-2.5-flash for speed; chunk sources via src/ai/text-splitter.ts and trim with adaptivePrompt() in src/ai/providers.ts.
  • Thinking: enable where useful (models that support it) and cap budgets; surface summaries only.
  • Structured output: request JSON via schema; validate with zod.
  • Function calling / tools: declare tool schemas and pass in; handle tool responses deterministically.
  • Grounding: use Google Search Grounding or URL context when needed; keep citations.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
