Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5 | $0.00468 | $0.00468 |
| Opus 5 | $0.00234 | $0.00234 |
| Sonnet 5 | $0.00094 | $0.00094 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00047 | $0.00047 |
Grade A, and why
openclaw-conventions scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
What it actually says
OpenClaw Coding Conventions
General conventions for any OpenClaw project.
File Naming
- Agent configs:
config.json(notagent-config.json) - Identity:
SOUL.md(always uppercase) - Memory:
MEMORY.md(always uppercase) - Tool scripts:
kebab-case.cjs(e.g.,ga4-report.cjs,reddit-scan.cjs) - Secrets:
secrets/directory, never committed to git
JavaScript Style
- CommonJS (
.cjs), not ESM - No npm dependencies for tool scripts
- Use
https.request()nothttps.get()(more reliable) - Always call
req.end()afterhttps.request() - Buffer size: 512KB minimum for API responses
- Rate limiting: Add
sleep()between sequential API calls - Error handling:
main().catch(e => { console.error("Fatal:", e.message); process.exit(1); })
Agent Naming
- Agent names: Short, memorable, one word (Orion, Echo, Radar, Scout, Loki)
- Session keys:
agent:{name}:{scope}(lowercase) - Directories:
agents/{name}/(lowercase)
Git
- Never commit
secrets/,.env, API keys, or credentials .gitignoreshould include:secrets/,.env,node_modules/,*.log- Commit messages: imperative mood ("Add report script" not "Added report script")
Telegram
- Use plain text, never Markdown parse mode
- Split messages over 4000 characters
- Add 500ms delay between sequential messages
- For copy-paste UX, send each item as a separate message
Common Pitfalls
https.get()can silently fail in script context — usehttps.request()+req.end()- Reddit JSON responses can be 150-200KB — set buffer to 512KB
- Telegram Markdown parsing breaks on
[]_*in dynamic content — use plain text - Cron jobs need gateway restart to take effect
- Path differences between Mac and Raspi — use config or env vars, not hardcoded paths
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

openclaw-conventions is a cursor rule published in the GitHub repository mergisi/openclaw-rules (2 stars, last pushed 6mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 468 tokens to every session, about $0.0023 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
