Aethos_Memory: Cursor rule for Windsurf

.windsurfrules

windsurfrules is a cursor rule for Windsurf from nisargpatel1906/Aethos_Memory. It costs 235 tokens per session, scanned A, a copy of cursorrules, MIT.

A set of Windsurf editor rules that tells an AI coding assistant how to use a memory system, record work, audit risky commands, and save reusable lessons.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it with Windsurf while discussing project decisions, working on complex features, debugging, running risky commands, or turning bug fixes into reusable guidance.
Why use it?
It is meant to preserve project context and add checks before dangerous shell operations, so work is less likely to be repeated or performed unsafely.

Cursor rule for Windsurf

Written for Windsurf: a Windsurf rule.

This is nisargpatel1906/Aethos_Memory's own configuration. It tells Windsurf how to work on Aethos_Memory itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything Aethos_Memory configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00235 $0.00235
Opus 5.5 $0.00094 $0.00094
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00047 $0.00047
Haiku 4.5 $0.00023 $0.00023

Security

Grade A, and why

windsurfrules scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 29d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Origin

92% identical to cursorrules — 2 lines differ, which has more behind it and is treated as the original. This page carries a canonical link to it rather than competing with it.

What it actually says

Windsurf Assistant Guidelines & Aethos Memory Rules

Aethos Memory System Rules

  • You are equipped with Aethos Memory (remember, recall, audit_action, record_activity, distill_lesson, promote_to_skill, get_memory_context).
  • AUTOMATIC PERSISTENCE: Silently call remember() on EVERY turn whenever user preferences, tech stack choices, architectural plans, or project decisions are discussed. Do NOT wait for explicit user prompt commands.
  • PROACTIVE RECALL: Call get_memory_context(task="...") before starting work on complex features or debugging.
  • PRE-FLIGHT SAFETY AUDIT: Call audit_action() before executing risky shell commands (e.g. destructive deletions, disk formatting, piping scripts to bash).
  • FLIGHT RECORDER: Call record_activity() to log significant execution steps, tool invocations, shell outputs, and error traces.
  • SKILL PROMOTION: After fixing non-trivial bugs, distill the solution using distill_lesson() and promote_to_skill().
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
