.windsurfrules

windsurfrules is a cursor rule for Windsurf from sandraschi/pdf-mcp. It costs 283 tokens per session, scanned A, a copy of cursorrules, MIT.

A set of coding rules for a PDF intelligence server and its React web app. It describes the server's tools, required checks, coding standards, and files that must not be changed or committed.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when developing or maintaining the pdf-mcp project, including its Python server and React interface. It covers checking server status, using PDF operations, running code checks, and saving generated PDFs.
Why use it?
It gives an agent project-specific instructions before and after making changes. This helps avoid using the wrong package manager, skipping checks, editing protected files, or exposing secrets.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00283 $0.00283
Opus 5.5 $0.00113 $0.00113
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00057 $0.00057
Haiku 4.5 $0.00028 $0.00028

Security

Grade A, and why

windsurfrules scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

pdf-mcp Cursor Rules

Session Context (pdf-mcp)

pdf-mcp is a PDF intelligence MCP server (FastMCP 3.4.4, FastAPI/Starlette HTTP on 11131, React webapp on 11130). Before starting work: run pdf_status to confirm the server is alive and pdf_help to see the current tool surface. The 16 tools are pdf_extract, pdf_manipulate, pdf_annotate, pdf_forms, pdf_convert, pdf_validate, pdf_rag, pdf_analyze, pdf_redact, pdf_classify, pdf_dedupe, pdf_export, pdf_do, pdf_help, pdf_status, pdf_shutdown. Each domain tool is a portmanteau with an operation param - read the docstring for operation names. At end of work: save any generated PDFs to data/uploads/ and note the job_id in the thread.

Standards

  • Check central docs first: D:\Dev\repos\mcp-central-docs\ (standards/, patterns/)
  • Python: ruff (0.16.x) + pyright, all gates via just ci
  • Webapp: React + Vite + Tailwind + Zustand; bun, not npm
  • Never edit files in _upstream/; never commit .env or secrets
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
