back-office-practices

back-office-practices is a cursor rule for Cursor from Scopeo/draftnrun. It costs 0 tokens per session (599 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A set of frontend coding rules covering logging, server data fetching, user notifications, error handling, and keeping documentation aligned with code.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when adding or changing screens, routes, components, data reads, mutations, notifications, or error handling in a frontend project.
Why use it?
It prevents inconsistent patterns, missing documentation, unsafe error handling, and API data being stored in the wrong place.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00599
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00300
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00120
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00060

Security

Grade A, and why

back-office-practices scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Back-office practices

Documentation hygiene

Every code change MUST update affected documentation in the same diff:

  • Add/remove/rename a screen, route, component, or pattern → update README.md and relevant cursor rules.
  • Never let docs or rules drift from the code.

Logging

Use logger.info(), logger.warn(), logger.error() from src/utils/logger.ts. Never use bare console.log/warn/error — the logger integrates with Sentry automatically.

Data fetching

  • All server reads through TanStack Query composables in src/composables/queries/.
  • Mutations use useMutation().
  • Inline edits: patch cache with queryClient.setQueryData() — never invalidateQueries for typing/toggling/field updates.
  • Destructive/structural changes (delete, reorder, bulk ops): invalidateQueries is fine.
  • Never store API data in manual ref() — always TanStack Query.

Notifications

Use useNotifications() for user-facing toasts:

const { notify } = useNotifications()
notify.success('Saved')
notify.error('Something went wrong')

Never use window.alert() or bare console for user feedback.

Error handling

  • Never use bare catch {} — always capture the error and handle it.
  • Catch specific error types when possible; use if checks over try/catch when the check is simple.
  • When re-throwing, make the message explicit enough to debug later.
  • User-facing errors: show via notify.error().
  • Unexpected errors: log via logger.error() (auto-reports to Sentry).

Dead code

No dead code — ever. Remove:

  • Commented-out blocks
  • Unused imports / variables / functions
  • Abandoned TODOs
  • Unreachable branches

When you spot dead code during a change, delete it in the same diff.

Testing

  • Test new components and composables with Vitest.
  • Test files live next to their source in __tests__/ directories.
  • Run pnpm test to verify.

TypeScript

  • Strict mode — no any unless documented.
  • Use interface for object shapes, type for unions/intersections.
  • Define props/emits with generic type parameter syntax.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
