routers

routers is a cursor rule for Cursor from Scopeo/draftnrun. It costs 0 tokens per session (853 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A set of conventions for building WebSocket API routes, which are server endpoints that can keep a live connection open with a client. It covers authentication, input checks, errors, pagination, versioned routes, and API documentation.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when adding routers, validating requests, protecting endpoints, handling service errors, supporting paginated results, or maintaining old and versioned graph APIs.
Why use it?
It gives developers a consistent way to add or change routes without duplicating security checks or breaking existing clients. It also keeps service errors and endpoint behavior in predictable places.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00853
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00426
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00171
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00085

Security

Grade A, and why

routers scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 57 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Router Conventions

  • Every router uses APIRouter(prefix=..., tags=[...]) and is registered in main.py.
  • Endpoints MUST use auth dependencies from auth_router.py — never manual token validation.
  • Input validation: manual checks, raise HTTPException with descriptive detail.
  • Pagination: use page (1-based) and page_size query params where applicable.
  • Domain/service errors should be raised as ServiceError subclasses in the service layer and handled globally in main.py.
  • Secrets/credentials: never return in API responses.
  • When adding a new router: register in main.py, add to ada_backend/docs/api-reference.md, update cursor rules if new patterns emerge.
  • Graph save APIs now have versioned routes; keep legacy and /v2/... behavior isolated with dedicated schemas to avoid breaking clients.
  • V2 graph endpoints: granular endpoints (POST/PUT/DELETE .../components, PUT .../map) for front/MCP. Git sync calls the same service functions internally (no HTTP endpoint). Both paths use the same building blocks (create_or_update_component_instance, upsert_component_node, upsert_edge, etc.).
  • Provider webhook endpoints that use raw-body signatures must verify the signature before parsing JSON.
  • Provider webhook signature, configuration, not-found, and queueing failures are ServiceError subclasses; let the global handler translate them instead of remapping them in the router.

WebSocket Router Pattern

WebSocket endpoints (run_stream_router.py, graph_display_stream_router.py, qa_stream_router.py) follow a shared pattern:

  • Auth via get_bearer_token_from_websocket() from ada_backend/utils/websocket_auth.py (JWT from Authorization header or ?token= query param). Browser WebSocket APIs don't support custom headers, so the frontend passes the JWT as a query parameter.
  • Redis Pub/Sub subscriber runs in a background threading.Thread; messages are bridged to an asyncio.Queue via loop.call_soon_threadsafe().
  • Ping keepalive: send {"type": "ping"} every 25 seconds of inactivity.
  • Close codes: 4401 (unauthorized), 4403 (forbidden), 4404 (not found), 4510 (Redis unavailable).
  • Cleanup: stop_event.set() + thread.join(timeout=2.0) in the finally block.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

routers is a cursor rule published in the GitHub repository Scopeo/draftnrun (30 stars, last pushed 4d ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 853 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-04.
