stackhawk-hawkscan-multi-profile

stackhawk-hawkscan-multi-profile is a cursor rule for Cursor from stackhawk/agent-skills. It costs 0 tokens per session (3,210 once invoked), scanned B, original, MIT.

A HawkScan configuration guide for testing authorization with multiple user profiles. BOLA means a user can access another user's object, while BFLA means a user can call an action meant for a different role.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to configure two or more accounts, run cross-user and cross-role scans, and investigate BOLA or BFLA findings in an application.
Why use it?
It helps find permission bugs that a single test account would miss, such as reading another user's record or using an admin-only function.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.03210
Opus 5.5 $0.00000 $0.01284
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00642
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00321

Security

Grade B, and why

stackhawk-hawkscan-multi-profile scanned grade B with 2 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

A POST to an outside endpoint may be telemetry or may be exfiltration; either way the mod talks to somewhere, and you should know where.

Multi-Profile Authorization Scanning (BOLA/BFLA)

Scan as several users at once so HawkScan can test whether one user can read another user's objects (BOLA — broken object-level authorization) or call functions their role should not reach (BFLA — broken function-level authorization). Configure 2+ users in app.authentication.profiles and run with --profile-scan-mode=primary-full: one profile gets the full scan policy, the rest run the cross-profile BOLA/BFLA checks. Entered from Phase 1c in SKILL.md, after the single-user auth recipe is chosen.

When to go multi-profile

Go multi-profile autonomously, without asking, when all three hold:

  1. Authorization signals in code. Discovery found at least one of:

    Signal Looks like (e.g.)
    Object-ID routes /<resource>/{id}, /<resource>/:id, @GetMapping("/{id}")
Ownership checks a query filtered by the current user (where owner_id = <current-user>)
Role / function guards @PreAuthorize, @RolesAllowed, a requireRole(...) middleware, an isAdmin check, an admin-only router
Tenant scoping org_id / tenant_id columns or tenant middleware

These are illustrative starting points — search the repo's real source root for its own equivalents.

  2. Capability. hawk scan --help | grep -q -- --profile-scan-mode succeeds. If it fails, scan as one user and say in the summary that BOLA/BFLA needs a newer hawk (brew upgrade stackhawk/cli/hawk).

  3. 2+ usable accounts after the ladder below.

No signals → scan as one user. Extra test accounts on their own are not a reason to write profiles.

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
