seo-backlinks

seo-backlinks is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from 01clauding/claude-seo-skill. It costs 67 tokens per session (2,110 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A search-engine-optimization tool for studying links that point to a website and planning link-building work. It covers link quality, competing sites’ links, outreach, and links between pages on the same site.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review referring domains, authority scores, link growth, harmful links, anchor text, competitor link gaps, outreach ideas, and internal-link improvements.
Why use it?
It helps reveal which sites strengthen or weaken a site’s link profile and where useful linking opportunities are missing.

Getting it into your agent

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00067 $0.02110
Opus 5 $0.00034 $0.01055
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00422
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00211

Security

Grade A, and why

seo-backlinks scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Key Metrics

Metric What It Measures Healthy Range
Referring Domains Unique linking domains Growth >5%/month
Domain Rating (DR) Site authority (Ahrefs 0-100) Industry-dependent
Domain Authority (DA) Site authority (Moz 0-100) Industry-dependent
Authority Score (AS) Site authority (SEMrush 0-100) Industry-dependent
Link Velocity New links per month Steady growth, no spikes
Toxic Score Harmful link percentage <5% of total profile

Anchor Text Distribution

Ideal distribution to avoid over-optimization penalties:

Anchor Type Target % Example Risk if Over
Branded 35-45% "Acme Corp", "acme.com" Low risk
Naked URL 15-25% "https://acme.com/page" Low risk
Generic 10-15% "click here", "read more" Low risk
Partial match 10-15% "best CRM for startups" Medium risk
Exact match 5-10% "CRM software" High risk if >15%
LSI/Related 5-10% "customer management tool" Low risk

Link Attribute Distribution

Attribute What It Means Ideal Mix
Dofollow Passes link equity 60-80%
Nofollow No equity, still valuable for traffic 15-30%
UGC User-generated (forums, comments) 5-10%
Sponsored Paid/affiliate links <5%

Inspired by automated competitor backlink monitoring workflows.

Discovery Process

  1. Identify competitors — 3-5 direct competitors + 2-3 aspirational
  2. Fetch new backlinks — Weekly lookback window via Backlinks API
  3. Quality filter — Apply minimum thresholds:
    • DR ≥ 30 (adjustable by industry)
    • Organic traffic ≥ 500/month
    • Relevance score: same industry/topic
    • Exclude known PBNs, link farms, directories
  4. Gap analysis — Identify domains linking to competitors but not you
  5. Prioritize — Rank by: authority × relevance × acquisition feasibility

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
