Skills Sync Bootstrap

Use this skill to set up skills-sync on the current device. The sync tool is intentionally not authoritative about local agent layouts; this skill makes the device-local agent inspect the filesystem, write an explicit config, and report what was included or ignored.

Workflow

1. Locate the CLI:

command -v skills-sync

If skills-sync is not on PATH, use the repo-local CLI path when present:

node ./bin/skills-sync.js <command>

When scripting fallback usage, store the path and keep node separate:

1. Probe the machine:

skills-sync probe --json

The probe emits facts only: candidate paths, existence, SKILL.md counts, and hard avoid patterns. Do not treat probe candidates as automatically correct.

1. Write config explicitly. Prefer:

~/.skills-sync/config.json
~/.skills-sync/state/              # state dir

1. Validate and initialize:

skills-sync config validate --config ~/.skills-sync/config.json
skills-sync init --config ~/.skills-sync/config.json --state-dir ~/.skills-sync/state --monorepo ~/.skills-sync/skills-monorepo

1. Run the archive bootstrap:

skills-sync snapshot --config ~/.skills-sync/config.json --state-dir ~/.skills-sync/state --monorepo ~/.skills-sync/skills-monorepo
skills-sync bootstrap --config ~/.skills-sync/config.json --state-dir ~/.skills-sync/state --monorepo ~/.skills-sync/skills-monorepo --json

1. Report included roots, missing roots, ignored roots, snapshot skill count, bootstrap commit, and ingest status. Ingest should normally be skipped unless explicitly configured.
