context-status

A session check that reports how much of the agent’s working text space is used and how much remains. It also displays the result as a bar chart.

Use it during long coding tasks to check token use, remaining space, and whether shortening the session is approaching.
Why use it?
It helps you see when the session is running out of room and its earlier details may be shortened. This lets you wrap up or prioritise work before that happens.

What it actually says

Context Status

Run the context usage command and capture the JSON output:

Then render a visual gauge using the chart tool. Build the JSON and pipe it:

Replace USED, REMAINING, TOTAL, PCT, RPCT, and MODEL with actual values from the JSON output. Use jq to extract them.

The command auto-detects the context window size from the model in the transcript (1M for Opus 4.6, 200k for others). Override with CLAUDE_CONTEXT_WINDOW env var.

If the remaining percentage is below 20%, mention that compaction is approaching and suggest wrapping up or prioritizing remaining work.
