authentication

authentication is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Abdullah4AI/apple-developer-toolkit. It costs 68 tokens per session (584 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A design for managing app sign-in and user sessions, including email and password, Apple, Google, or anonymous guest access. It defines shared authentication state and how screens protect or allow access.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to build login and logout flows, guest browsing, protected screens, social sign-in, and backend authentication through Supabase when that service is also used.
Why use it?
It keeps login logic in one place and helps avoid scattered session checks across individual screens.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00068 $0.00584
Opus 5.5 $0.00027 $0.00234
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00117
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00058

Security

Grade A, and why

authentication scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Authentication Architecture

Auth Method Selection

Default is email/password + anonymous guest. Only add other methods when the user explicitly asks:

User Says Auth Methods
(nothing specified) email/password + anonymous guest
"Apple Sign In" / "Sign in with Apple" Apple Sign In
"Google Sign In" Google Sign In (requires GoogleSignIn package)
"social login" Apple + Google
"guest mode" / "browse without account" anonymous only

Methods combine — a user can request email + Apple + anonymous together.

Service Architecture

AuthService is @Observable @MainActor — it owns all auth state and lives in Services/Auth/, never inside Features/.

// ViewModels consume AuthService via init injection
@Observable @MainActor
class ProfileViewModel {
    private let authService: AuthService
    init(authService: AuthService) { self.authService = authService }
}

// Views access AuthService through @Environment
@Environment(AuthService.self) private var authService

When the Supabase skill is also loaded, AuthService delegates to SupabaseService.shared.client.auth for all backend calls. Without a backend skill, AuthService uses a placeholder implementation.

Auth Modes

Gate mode (default): AuthGuardView sits at the app root. Users must authenticate before accessing any content.

Optional mode (when user says "auth is optional" or "browse without login"): No root gate. Individual features check authService.isAuthenticated and prompt login when needed.

Key Rules

  • Services live in Services/Auth/ — never inside Features/
  • ViewModels consume AuthService via init injection, never call auth APIs directly
  • Never manage tokens manually — the backend SDK handles token storage and refresh
  • Always restore session on app launch
  • Always handle sign-out gracefully — clear local state even if the server call fails

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
