digitalocean-cli

digitalocean-cli is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from abdullahkhawer/devops-skills. It costs 29 tokens per session (766 once invoked), scanned B, original, Apache-2.0.

A command-line guide for managing DigitalOcean resources with `doctl`, DigitalOcean's command-line tool. It selects the account context and region that match the target environment.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for listing and managing DigitalOcean resources in production or staging, with the correct context and region attached to each command.
Why use it?
It helps prevent commands from using the wrong account or creating resources in the wrong data-centre region. It also makes the required authentication setup explicit.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00029 $0.00766
Opus 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00306
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00153
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00077

Security

Grade B, and why

digitalocean-cli scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 23d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Unrestricted tool accessmediumExcessive agency

A wildcard tool grant or "run any command" leaves no least-privilege boundary at all.

- NEVER run any command in the "Never run" table above without explicit user instruction — a human must execute these, especially against production.

DigitalOcean CLI Skill

When running doctl commands, always pass the --context flag based on the target environment, and specify the region explicitly for resource-creating commands.

Configuration

Update the context map below with your doctl auth context names:

Environment Context Default Region
Production <your-prod-context> <your-prod-region> (e.g. nyc3)
Staging / Non-Prod <your-nonprod-context> <your-nonprod-region> (e.g. sgp1)

Prerequisites (one-time setup by user)

If not already authenticated, inform the user that setup is required and ask them to complete the following steps manually. Do not perform these steps yourself.

brew install doctl
doctl auth init --context <your-context-name>
doctl auth list

Command Format

doctl <resource> <command> --context <context> [--region <region>] [options]

Examples

# Production
doctl compute droplet list --context <your-prod-context>

# Staging / Non-Prod
doctl compute droplet list --context <your-nonprod-context>

Available Commands

Read-only (safe, no confirmation needed)

Command pattern Description
doctl compute droplet list/get List or describe droplets
doctl compute domain list List DNS domains
doctl kubernetes cluster list/get List or describe Kubernetes clusters
doctl databases list/get List or describe managed databases
doctl monitoring alert-policy list List monitoring alert policies
doctl account get Show account information
doctl auth list List authenticated contexts

Mutating operations (confirm with user before running)

Command pattern Description
doctl compute droplet create Create a new droplet
doctl kubernetes cluster create Create a new Kubernetes cluster
doctl databases create Create a new managed database
doctl compute droplet resize Resize a droplet

Never run — requires explicit human approval

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

digitalocean-cli is a skill published in the GitHub repository abdullahkhawer/devops-skills (8 stars, last pushed 24d ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 29 tokens to every session and 766 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it B with 1 finding (unrestricted tool access).
