jaeger-cli

jaeger-cli is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from abdullahkhawer/devops-skills. It costs 32 tokens per session (856 once invoked), scanned B, original, Apache-2.0.

A Jaeger API helper that uses curl to query distributed traces, services, operations, and dependency graphs. Jaeger is a tracing system that shows how a request travels through multiple services.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for finding traces, examining service and operation timing, and understanding dependencies between services.
Why use it?
It helps locate slow or failed parts of a request across services without manually navigating the tracing system.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00032 $0.00856
Opus 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00342
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00171
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00086

Security

Grade B, and why

jaeger-cli scanned grade B with 2 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 23d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Asks for rootmediumPrivilege escalation

A mod that escalates privileges can change anything on the machine, not only the project.

mkdir -p ~/.jaeger && echo "<your-api-token>" > <TOKEN_FILE> && chmod 600 <TOKEN_FILE>

Not a fault in itself. Listed so you know the mod talks to something, and to what.

Jaeger CLI Skill

Use the instance and rules below when constructing all Jaeger API commands.

Instances

Update the table below with your Jaeger Query instance URLs before using this skill:

Environment Base URL Token File (if auth is enforced)
Production https://<your-jaeger-prod-url> ~/.jaeger/prod.token
Staging https://<your-jaeger-staging-url> ~/.jaeger/staging.token

If the target instance is unclear, ask the user before running any command.

Prerequisites (one-time setup by user)

If the Jaeger instance is behind an authentication proxy, obtain a token and save it to the corresponding token file (see instance table above). Never print or display token values. Do not perform these steps yourself.

mkdir -p ~/.jaeger && echo "<your-api-token>" > <TOKEN_FILE> && chmod 600 <TOKEN_FILE>

Command Format

All API calls use curl against the Jaeger Query Service API:

curl -s -H "Authorization: Bearer $(cat <TOKEN_FILE>)" \
  "<BASE_URL>/api/<endpoint>" | jq .

If the instance has no auth in front of it, omit the Authorization header entirely.

Example (production):

curl -s -H "Authorization: Bearer $(cat ~/.jaeger/prod.token)" \
  "https://<your-jaeger-prod-url>/api/services" | jq .

Available API Endpoints

Read-only (safe, no confirmation needed)

Endpoint Description
/api/services List all known service names
/api/services/<service>/operations List operations for a service
/api/traces?service=<service>&operation=<op>&start=<us>&end=<us>&limit=<n> Find traces matching filters
/api/traces/<trace-id> Get a specific trace by ID
/api/dependencies?endTs=<ms>&lookback=<ms> Get the service dependency graph

Example Queries

# List services
curl -s "<BASE_URL>/api/services" | jq .

# Find traces for a service in the last hour, with a minimum duration filter
curl -s "<BASE_URL>/api/traces?service=<service-name>&start=$(( $(date -u +%s) - 3600 ))000000&end=$(date -u +%s)000000&minDuration=100ms&limit=20" | jq .

# Get a specific trace
curl -s "<BASE_URL>/api/traces/<trace-id>" | jq .

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

jaeger-cli is a skill published in the GitHub repository abdullahkhawer/devops-skills (8 stars, last pushed 24d ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 32 tokens to every session and 856 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it B with 2 findings (asks for root, makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-23.
