ergopti: Skill for Claude Code

.agents/skills/linux-driver/SKILL.md

linux-driver is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from adrienm7/ergopti. It costs 38 tokens per session (2,078 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to the rules and known pitfalls of the project's Linux driver, which handles input events and key actions. It covers LuaJIT, Linux input devices, command-line tools, and tap-hold behavior.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when writing, editing, or reviewing the Linux driver and when checking its tests, input-event handling, or runtime compatibility.
Why use it?
It helps avoid platform-specific mistakes that may pass local tests but fail under the LuaJIT environment used by continuous integration.

This is adrienm7/ergopti's own configuration. It tells Claude Code and Codex how to work on ergopti itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything ergopti configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00038 $0.02078
Opus 5.5 $0.00015 $0.00831
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00416
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00208

Security

Grade A, and why

linux-driver scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 15d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 145 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Linux driver foot-guns

Universal code rules live in AGENTS.md; the strict convention lint is the formatting authority. This file covers what has actually gone wrong, or is provably wrong today, in the Linux driver.

Rewritten 2026-08-06. Every technical section of the previous version described a defect that had since been fixed — the grab, the dead evdev decoder, the missing ShellRunner, the race test's apostrophe hole, kanata's device flag. A skill is loaded automatically and read as current, so a stale one is worse than none: it sends the next reader to repair code that is already correct, and its warnings argue against decisions the driver has since made deliberately. Verify before you trust anything here, and rewrite it when you find it wrong.

What still holds

CI runs LuaJIT and exercises both event backends

npm run test:linux probes luajit, then lua5.4, then lua. Develop against 5.4 locally and you are not testing what gates the merge.

  • utf8 is absent under LuaJIT. tests/run.lua installs compat.utf8 before any test module loads. Under 5.4 the shim is redundant, so a module that depends on its exact shape breaks only on LuaJIT.
  • No bitwise operators. LuaJIT is 5.1-based; &, << and // are 5.3+. device_finder.lua spells the EV_KEY bit test out arithmetically for exactly this reason. A & compiles fine on 5.4 and is a syntax error in CI.
  • os.execute return type. 5.1/LuaJIT return a number, 5.2+ return true. Every call site must accept both (result == true or result == 0).
  • The unit lane installs luv and admits its real event-loop and file-event integrations. Polling tests explicitly load the dependency as absent, so installed libraries cannot silently change the branch under test. lfs remains optional, so test discovery can still shell out.
  • Plain lua5.1 is not viable: goto is 5.2+.

A local declared after the function that reads it is a nil global

The single most repeated defect in this driver — five occurrences, two of them on 2026-08-06 alone. The function binds the nil GLOBAL instead of the local, and the read silently does nothing: no error, no log, just a counter that stays at zero or a state that never applies.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

linux-driver is a skill published in the GitHub repository adrienm7/ergopti (14 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 38 tokens to every session and 2,078 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-14.
