format-converter

format-converter is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from AFK-surf/OpenBridge. It costs 25 tokens per session (487 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for converting documents, images, audio, and video between file formats. It selects local tools such as Pandoc, Pillow, and FFmpeg for the different types of files.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to convert documents such as Markdown, HTML, PDF, and DOCX; change image formats or sizes; and convert audio and video files.
Why use it?
It provides format-specific instructions and safeguards, such as using a suitable PDF engine or preserving image quality during resizing. This avoids applying the wrong conversion method to a file.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00025 $0.00487
Opus 5 $0.00013 $0.00244
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00097
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00049

Measured 6d ago against content hash 40bf3e7a4ee6, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

format-converter scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

File Format Conversion

Execution Environment

Run format conversion commands in the local VM environment by default. Do not perform conversion work on local macOS or a cloud VM unless the user explicitly asks for that environment.

Workflow Decision

Task Tool Reference
Document conversion pandoc document-convert.md
Image format conversion Python (Pillow) image-convert.md
Audio/video conversion ffmpeg av-convert.md

Quick Reference

Document Conversion

Read references/document-convert.md for detailed workflow.

Key points:

  • PDF generation: ALWAYS use --pdf-engine=weasyprint (lightweight, auto-installed)
  • Pandoc supports markdown, HTML, PDF, DOCX, LaTeX, and many more formats
# PDF from markdown
pandoc input.md -o output.pdf --pdf-engine=weasyprint

# DOCX from HTML
pandoc input.html -o output.docx

Image Conversion

Read references/image-convert.md for detailed workflow.

Key points:

  • Use Image.LANCZOS for any resize operation (prevents color banding/aliasing)
  • Convert RGBA to RGB before saving as JPEG
  • Preserve EXIF metadata when possible
# Dependencies
apt install python3-pil python3-pillow-heif

Audio/Video Conversion

Read references/av-convert.md for detailed workflow.

Key points:

  • Use -c copy when only changing container format (fast, lossless)
  • Use flags=lanczos in scale filters for best quality
  • Use -crf for quality-based encoding

Check ffmpeg available before using it.

Files

What ships with it

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
