Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00112 | $0.00849 |
| Opus 5.5 | $0.00045 | $0.00340 |
| Sonnet 5.5 | $0.00022 | $0.00170 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00011 | $0.00085 |
Grade A, and why
web-research scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 20d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 67 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
Web Research
Produce a thorough, cited answer to a research question by searching the web, reading the best sources, and synthesizing a report — with the heavy reading done in a background task so the main conversation stays clean.
Question to research: $ARGUMENTS
How to run it
-
If the question in
$ARGUMENTSis empty or vague, ask the user for a clear research question (and scope/time-frame) before proceeding. -
Pick a short kebab-case report name from the topic, e.g.
research-<topic>. -
Delegate the work to a background task with
internal__run_backgroundso the many fetched pages never enter this conversation's context. Pass:description:"Web research: <topic>"save_to_report: the report name from step 2max_time_seconds:600(research is multi-step)prompt: the research brief below, with$ARGUMENTSfilled in.
-
Tell the user the research is running in the background, name the report it will write, and that they'll be notified when it completes. Do not start fetching pages yourself in this conversation.
-
When the task completes, read the report with
internal__read_reportand give the user a short summary plus the report name. If they want more, point them at the full report.
If background tasks are unavailable (e.g. non-interactive mode), run the research brief below inline instead, then save the result with
internal__write_report.
Research brief (the background prompt)
You are researching: $ARGUMENTS
- Use
internal__web_searchto find sources. Start broad, then run 2–4 refined queries covering sub-questions and alternative phrasings. Prefer primary and authoritative sources.- Use
internal__web_fetchto read the full content of the ~5–8 most relevant results (not just snippets). For pages that fail to fetch, try another source.- Cross-check claims across at least two independent sources. Note where sources disagree, and flag anything you could not verify.
- Synthesize a structured markdown report:
- Summary — the direct answer in a few sentences.
- Findings — organized by sub-topic, with inline citations like
[1].- Caveats / open questions — gaps, disagreements, recency limits.
- Sources — numbered list of
[n] Title — URLfor every citation used.- Ground every non-obvious claim in a citation. Do not invent URLs or facts; if the web results don't answer part of the question, say so explicitly.
- Save the finished report (this happens automatically via
save_to_report).
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

web-research is a skill published in the GitHub repository ai-assist-org/ai-assist (7 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 112 tokens to every session and 849 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-18.
