grok-browser

grok-browser is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from AiAi-Mastermind/aiai-mastermind-tools-and-skills. It costs 149 tokens per session (1,449 once invoked), scanned B, original, MIT.

A browser-based research skill that asks Grok to search current posts on X, formerly known as Twitter. It uses Grok's Private Chat and can return post authors, dates, links, and verification results.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for finding posts about a topic, filtering searches by engagement or date, and collecting or checking cited X posts.
Why use it?
It provides a way to research current X discussions without putting the questions into the user's normal Grok history. It also checks whether selected post links can be opened.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00149 $0.01449
Opus 5.5 $0.00060 $0.00580
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00030 $0.00290
Haiku 4.5 $0.00015 $0.00145

Security

Grade B, and why

grok-browser scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (bin/acdriver.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Grok on X (browser, Private Chat)

Requires the aiai-agent-chrome kit, installed and running, with you signed in to grok.com (and x.com, for verifying posts) inside the Agent Chrome window. A free Grok account works.

Use the driver

GA="$(ls -d ~/.claude/skills/grok-browser ~/.codex/skills/grok-browser ~/.agents/skills/grok-browser 2>/dev/null | head -1)/bin/grok-ask"
"$GA" "<question>" --json # plain question: about 15-50 s
"$GA" "<X research question>" --mode research --verify 3 --json # several X searches, about 1-3 min

The output is one JSON object with these fields:

  • status, answer_markdown, model.
  • x_searches: the exact X searches Grok ran, for example "Claude Code" min_faves:50 since:2026-09-22; other_searches holds any web searches.
  • sources: each cited post as @handle and a canonical https://x.com/<handle>/status/<id> URL, with posted_utc decoded from the status ID. Links that aren't exactly a status URL are dropped.
  • verified (with --verify N): exists (the post's own page proved it), missing, unknown, signin_needed or error for the first N posts, plus the like count and time read from x.com. unconfirmed_posts lists the ones that are not exists.
  • file: a private markdown copy under ~/Library/Application Support/BrowserResearch/runs/<date>/ (set BROWSER_RESEARCH_DIR to change it).

--mode research tells Grok to run several searches, try Top results and min_faves filters, and prefer substantive, high-engagement posts. Without it, Grok's X search returns the newest posts, which are often minutes old with 0 likes.

status do this
done use it; see "trust" below
signin_needed tell the owner to sign in to Grok in Agent Chrome; "$AC" open https://grok.com/ opens a tab for them
isolation_unavailable the Private Chat markers weren't there, so nothing was sent. Retry once, then report it. Never fall back to a normal chat
rate_limited Grok's usage pool is spent; stop for today
ui_changed / timeout drive it yourself (below) or report it
not_installed / not_running / error the kit is missing or Agent Chrome is down: "$AC" doctor, report the message

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
