ai-litellm-gateway-cost-control

ai-litellm-gateway-cost-control is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from aidi1723/safe-agent-skills. It costs 30 tokens per session (296 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A reference guide for reviewing gateways that route agent requests across multiple AI model providers. It covers routing, provider fallback, budgets, rate limits, logging, and privacy.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review a model-routing setup and produce a routing summary, limits plan, fallback matrix, privacy notes, and remaining risks.
Why use it?
It helps reveal unclear costs, reliability behavior, usage limits, and risks of exposing prompts or credentials in logs.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00030 $0.00296
Opus 5 $0.00015 $0.00148
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00059
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00030

Security

Grade A, and why

ai-litellm-gateway-cost-control scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

AI LiteLLM Gateway Cost Control

When To Use

Use this skill when an agent or product routes requests across multiple model providers and needs cost, latency, logging, rate, or fallback policy review.

Safe Workflow

  1. Identify providers, model names, routing rules, budget owner, and fallback order.
  2. Separate reliability fallback from cost optimization and compliance routing.
  3. Define per-task, per-user, and per-workspace limits before production use.
  4. Record what happens when a provider fails, slows down, or exceeds budget.
  5. Keep credentials and provider secrets outside skill instructions.
  6. Verify that logs do not expose private prompts, user data, or credentials.

Expected Output

  • routing policy summary
  • budget and rate limit plan
  • provider fallback matrix
  • logging and privacy notes
  • residual risk list

Verifier Expectations

  • provider list check
  • budget limit check
  • private data logging check
  • fallback behavior check

Failure Handling

If license or provider policy is unclear, keep the skill in review state and avoid recommending default production use.

Boundary

This is a reference skill inspired by LiteLLM. It documents gateway review patterns and does not bundle proxy code, provider connectors, or credentials.

Files

What ships with it

1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
