design-inspiration-study

design-inspiration-study is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Akakaui/visual-browser-agent. It costs 33 tokens per session (804 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A website design study workflow that records layout, typography, colors, spacing, and content-density patterns from public sites, then separates observed facts from ideas for adaptation.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to study up to three reference sites, create an inspiration brief or mood board, compare desktop and mobile layouts, and extract reusable design principles.
Why use it?
It gives developers a documented basis for design decisions without treating copied design details as original implementation.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00033 $0.00804
Opus 5 $0.00016 $0.00402
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00161
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00080

Security

Grade A, and why

design-inspiration-study scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Design Inspiration Study Skill

When to Use

Use this skill when the user wants to learn from existing public designs:

  • Layout hierarchy and grid structure
  • Typography scales, pairings, and rhythm
  • Color palettes and usage proportions
  • Spacing systems and content density
  • Building a mood board or inspiration brief for new work

Instructions

Study Pass

For each source site (limit to 3 per brief):

  1. navigate(url) - public pages only
  2. inspect_page() - extract computed styles: font families, size/weight/line-height scales, color tokens, spacing values, container widths
  3. Map layout hierarchy: header/nav/hero/content/footer structure, column grid, vertical section rhythm
  4. capture_screenshot per notable section at desktop (1280x720) and mobile (375x667) viewports

Classify Every Finding

Apply this distinction to every item before it enters the brief:

  • Observation — what the site factually does ("hero heading pairs 64px display over 40px subhead on an 8pt grid")
  • Inspiration — why that pattern works and what it suggests when adapted to different content
  • Implementation — building an original equivalent from the extracted principle
  • Copied asset — reusing the site's actual image, code, or font file. Never permitted.

An observation becomes inspiration only with reasoning attached; it becomes implementation only as an original rebuild.

Evidence Discipline

  • Record the full source URL beside every observation and screenshot
  • Note viewport and capture order for each artifact
  • Run review_visual_evidence to confirm claims before they enter the brief
  • Discard any finding you cannot back with captured evidence

Inspiration Brief

Produce one document containing:

  • Per-site pattern inventory (hierarchy, type scale, palette, spacing) with URLs
  • Cross-site themes: patterns repeated across independent sources
  • Adaptation notes written as principles, never as asset reuse
  • Evidence manifest mapping every claim to a screenshot/event ID

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
