folio

folio is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from alea-institute/folio-mcp. It costs 86 tokens per session (1,162 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A legal-service classifier that maps a described matter to FOLIO’s service categories, such as advice, transactions, disputes, regulation, or bankruptcy.

In plain words
What is it for?
Classifying a legal matter, browsing the relevant service category, and finding a more detailed service type.
Why use it?
It helps identify the kind of legal work a matter requires before choosing a more specific service.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00086 $0.01162
Opus 5 $0.00043 $0.00581
Sonnet 5 $0.00017 $0.00232
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00116

Security

Grade A, and why

folio scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

When to Use

Use the FOLIO MCP tools when you need to:

  • Classify legal concepts: Find the correct ontology term for a legal concept
  • Identify document types: Look up legal document classifications (contracts, filings, opinions)
  • Find areas of law: Determine which legal practice area applies
  • Map entity types: Identify types of legal entities (corporations, trusts, partnerships)
  • Explore relationships: Find how legal concepts relate to each other
  • Export definitions: Get formal definitions in markdown, JSON-LD, or OWL XML

Follow this workflow:

  1. Search by name: Start with folio:search_concepts(query) to find concepts by label
  2. Refine by definition: If name search is too broad, use folio:search_definitions(query)
  3. Advanced query: Use folio:query_concepts(label, definition, branch, parent) for composable filters
  4. Query properties: Use folio:query_properties(label, definition, domain, range) to find relationships
  5. Browse branches: Use folio:list_branches() then folio:get_taxonomy_branch(branch_name) to explore a category
  6. Navigate hierarchy: Use folio:get_children(iri) and folio:get_parents(iri) to explore up/down the taxonomy

Eleven specialized classification workflows are available as slash commands. Suggest these to users when they need structured FOLIO classification:

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
