speckit-companion: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/shots/SKILL.md

shots is a skill for Claude Code from alfredoperez/speckit-companion. It costs 132 tokens per session (4,648 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A scripted workflow for taking screenshots and recordings of real SpecKit Companion products, including a VS Code extension, terminal mod, and app board. It also runs visual checks on those product surfaces.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to capture or retake documentation images, place published screenshot files, record product footage, and run the associated visual checks.
Why use it?
It makes product images repeatable instead of relying on manually captured pictures. It helps catch blank, clipped, loading, or otherwise unusable crops before publication.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00132 $0.04648
Opus 5.5 $0.00053 $0.01859
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00026 $0.00930
Haiku 4.5 $0.00013 $0.00465

Security

Grade A, and why

shots scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 181 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Shots

Pictures and footage of the real product, and the scripted checks that take them. Storybook captures, clips, GIFs and site stills are the feature-clip skill.

Rules

  • Never take a screenshot by hand. Every product picture comes from a script step, so it can be retaken. When no crop shows the surface, add a step.
  • Reuse first. Look in .shots/ and at npm run shots:place -- --list before opening a window, and open one once for everything missing.
  • Quiet Light is the theme for docs, changelog and review pictures. It is the scripts' default; --theme dark gives Dark Modern.
  • A placed copy is a published filename. READMEs and the Marketplace resolve images against current main, so add new files and never rename or delete one.
  • Look at every crop before using it. Open _sheet.png first, and retake a crop that is clipped, blank, still loading or covered.
  • Concept pictures are diagrams, an SVG with a 2x PNG beside it. Never a video still, never a caption burned into the picture.
  • Real windows are for release QA or an explicit ask, not for every ticket: npm run shots, npm run check:desktop and npm run record open a visible VS Code window.
  • Nothing optimises a placed PNG. For a large one, run oxipng -o max <file> before it is committed.

Which command makes which picture

Command What it makes Where it lands What the machine needs
npm run shots Every named crop of the extension (table below), plus _sheet.png .shots/ VS Code (VSCODE_BIN overrides the path). Opens a real window, device scale factor 2.
npm run shots:board The Copilot app board's pictures .shots/ Google Chrome. Headless.
npm run check:terminal The Claude Code mod's screen at every step, with a band crop and a pane crop .terminal-check/<recipe>-<mode>/ tmux, the logged-in claude CLI, Google Chrome, and the speckit-sandboxes checkout .claude/sandboxes-env.sh locates
npm run shots:place A copy of each crop at every path tooling/scripts/shots.json lists for it The paths in that file Nothing. Opens no window.
npm run shots:sheet -- <dir> One contact sheet of any folder of pictures <dir>/_sheet.png Nothing

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
