binary-file-suppression

binary-file-suppression is a skill for Claude Code from alivirgo/Major-AI-Skills. It costs 26 tokens per session (1,414 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A safety method for detecting binary files, such as images, compiled programs, databases, and archives, before an AI agent reads them as text. It supplies basic file information instead of putting raw bytes into the conversation.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when an agent scans repositories that contain media, compiled files, SQLite databases, or compressed archives.
Why use it?
Binary data can fill the agent’s text context with unreadable characters and leave less room for useful code or instructions. Filtering it helps keep file inspection focused on readable content.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00026 $0.01414
Opus 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00566
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00005 $0.00283
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00141

Security

Grade A, and why

binary-file-suppression scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Binary File Ingestion Suppression (Hex Buffer Guard)

Overview

When an autonomous agent mistakenly attempts to read a compiled binary (.exe, .wasm, .pyc), SQLite database (.sqlite), media asset (.png, .mp4), or compressed archive (.tar.gz, .zip) into text context, standard tokenizers attempt to decode raw byte streams into UTF-8 characters.

This causes immediate Context Poisoning: thousands of unrenderable replacement tokens (\ufffd, \x00, \x0f) flood the context window, blowing past token limits, degrading model attention weights, and causing model hallucination loops.

The Binary Suppression Protocol enforces pre-flight binary detection via magic bytes and null-byte heuristics, replacing raw file contents with clean structural metadata.

binary-file-suppression is a skill published in the GitHub repository alivirgo/Major-AI-Skills (2 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 26 tokens to every session and 1,414 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-05.
