phase-bounded-plan-surface

phase-bounded-plan-surface is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from alonf/specrew. It costs 0 tokens per session (249 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A planning-template guide for adding a future project phase without claiming that the phase has already been carried out. It reserves places for later evidence, routing results, and enforcement work.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to extend templates with artifact locations, review tables, placeholders, and explicit deferrals. It also helps record the completed template task in the active iteration.
Why use it?
It keeps planning documents honest when implementation is intentionally deferred. It separates intended work from proof that the work actually ran.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00249
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00125
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00050
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00025

Security

Grade A, and why

phase-bounded-plan-surface scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

phase-bounded-plan-surface

Purpose

Extend a planning template for a later lifecycle phase without falsely implying that execution, evidence, or enforcement for that phase is already complete.

When to Use

  • A template needs a new section for a future quality or governance phase.
  • The current task only owns planning/rendering, not the runtime or validator implementation behind it.
  • Later tasks will fill in execution evidence, routing outcomes, or enforcement behavior.

Pattern

  1. Add artifact-location fields first so later work has an explicit home.
  2. Render planning tables for the phase's required focus areas, but keep the cells as fill-in placeholders rather than synthesized outcomes.
  3. Separate routing or activation intent from effective execution evidence.
  4. Add explicit later-deferral bullets for any lifecycle behavior not yet delivered.
  5. Reconcile the active iteration's plan/state/drift bookkeeping so the completed template task is recorded without claiming downstream tasks have started.

Anti-Patterns

  • Writing the template as if line-by-line review evidence already exists.
  • Collapsing planning intent and runtime-effective results into one field before the execution path exists.
  • Hiding deferred follow-on work inside vague task titles instead of naming it explicitly in the template.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

phase-bounded-plan-surface is a skill published in the GitHub repository alonf/specrew (54 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 249 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
