Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00026 | $0.02416 |
| Opus 5.5 | $0.00010 | $0.00966 |
| Sonnet 5.5 | $0.00005 | $0.00483 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00003 | $0.00242 |
Grade B, and why
astra-kb scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 19d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Asks for rootmediumPrivilege escalation
A mod that escalates privileges can change anything on the machine, not only the project.

Astra Knowledge Base — Agent Guide
This skill teaches Hermes how to use the Astra Knowledge Base MCP server for storing, searching, and managing knowledge.
For architecture decisions (RAG vs GraphRAG vs SAG, chunking strategies, embedding infrastructure, PostgreSQL vector index selection), see the project's architecture guide.
Tools Overview
| Tool | Purpose |
|---|---|
kb_add |
Add text content (auto-chunked + embedded + SAG extracted) |
kb_search |
Search across KBs (hybrid/fts/vector/sag_fast/sag_precise) |
kb_import_file |
Import PDF/DOCX/PPTX/HTML via MarkItDown |
kb_extract |
Manual SAG extraction (auto-extract runs on kb_add anyway) |
kb_rechunk |
Re-chunk existing content with a new strategy |
kb_stats |
Get KB statistics |
kb_search_by_tags |
Search by tag overlap |
kb_export / kb_import_jsonl |
Cross-instance data migration |
Search Strategy Selection
| Strategy | When to use |
|---|---|
hybrid (default) |
General purpose — combines FTS + vector |
fts |
Exact keyword match, code, config, proper names |
vector |
Semantic similarity, paraphrased queries |
sag_fast |
Direct event-vector query (fast, SAG-aware) |
sag_precise |
Multi-hop / entity-driven retrieval (slower but richer) |
Rule of thumb: use hybrid first. If results are too broad, try sag_precise.
If you need exact string match, use fts.
KB Naming Convention
Knowledge bases are organised by domain, not by source type:

Postmortems, root cause analysis |
| Agent config | agent_config |
MCP config, ports, tool quirks |
| Reference | reference |
Format tables, quick reference |
| Networking | networking |
Research reports, config notes |
| Service management | service_management |
Health check logs |
| Linux administration | linux_admin |
System admin, commands |
What ships with it
1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

astra-kb is a skill published in the GitHub repository alrcatraz/astra-knowledge-base-mcp (2 stars, last pushed 20d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 26 tokens to every session and 2,416 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it B with 1 finding (asks for root). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-24.
