package-design

package-design is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from amadeus-dlc/amadeus. It costs 62 tokens per session (309 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A code-structure guide for reorganizing packages or modules around what may change independently, while controlling dependencies and public interfaces.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review package layouts, split large modules, fix dependency direction, hide implementation details, and plan safe migrations.
Why use it?
It helps reduce tangled dependencies, circular references, and changes that spread through unrelated parts of a codebase.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00062 $0.00309
Opus 5 $0.00031 $0.00154
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00062
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00031

Security

Grade A, and why

package-design scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Package Design

Package design is about controlling change, not arranging files aesthetically.

Workflow

  1. Identify change reasons: what decisions are likely to vary independently?

  2. Map current dependencies and cycles.

  3. Group code by stable domain or technical decisions, not by temporary implementation steps.

  4. Define public APIs that hide volatile internals.

  5. Make dependency direction explicit and acyclic.

  6. Plan migration in small, behavior-preserving moves.

Design Rules

  • Put volatile details behind stable interfaces.

  • Keep high-level policy independent from low-level mechanisms.

  • Prefer feature/domain packages when change reasons are domain-shaped.

  • Split large modules only when the split reduces change coupling.

References

Read references/principles.md for design principles and references/rust-patterns.md for Rust-specific layouts.

Detailed Reference

For non-trivial implementation, review, or refactoring work, read references/details.md before giving final guidance. It contains the detailed rules, examples, smells, and migration notes that do not belong in the short invocation body.

Output

Return current problems, target package tree, dependency rules, migration steps, and verification commands.

Files

What ships with it

3 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
