When to Use

Use to provision Ubuntu on lab capacity for certification, kernel testing, or partner silicon bring-up jobs.

Procedure

  1. Check capacity first:
    racksmith health
    racksmith machines --status Ready
    
  2. Plan with constraints:
    racksmith plan "deploy ubuntu noble on amd-epyc 100g"
    
  3. Execute with explicit approval:
    racksmith run "deploy ubuntu noble on amd-epyc" --execute --yes
    
  4. Or enqueue a job for the worker:
    racksmith job cert-smoke --tags amd-epyc,100g --run
    
  5. Confirm host reaches Deployed and has an IP.

Pitfalls

  • Deploying without tag constraints grabs the wrong silicon.
  • Leaving Deployed hosts orphaned — release when jobs finish.
  • Using autopilot on shared labs without team norms.
