lab-health

lab-health is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Amiirhosseini/racksmith. It costs 18 tokens per session (336 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A health audit for a MAAS-managed lab, where MAAS is software for provisioning and managing physical servers. It checks available capacity, temperatures, remote management, and network-switch state.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for routine lab reviews, before assigning certification jobs, and when checking whether the fleet has ready machines and no critical problems.
Why use it?
It turns several infrastructure checks into a short list of findings, helping operators spot blocked capacity, unreachable servers, network mismatches, or overheating.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00018 $0.00336
Opus 5 $0.00009 $0.00168
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00067
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00034

Security

Grade A, and why

lab-health scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

What it actually says

Lab Health Audit

When to Use

Use for "is the lab healthy?", capacity checks, morning ops review, or before scheduling certification jobs onto the fleet.

Procedure

  1. Collect snapshot and findings:
    racksmith health

  2. Or via HTTP API:
    curl -s http://127.0.0.1:8787/v1/snapshot | jq '.summary, .findings'

  3. Prioritize critical findings before warn.
  4. Typical codes:
    • commission.failed — re-commission path
    • bmc.unreachable — OOB management path
    • switch.vlan_mismatch — fabric intent drift
    • capacity.zero_ready — no free pool capacity
    • thermal.high — cooling / airflow
  5. Produce a short operator summary: counts by severity, top 5 actions.

Pitfalls

  • Treating info commissioning-in-flight as incidents.
  • Ignoring stale telemetry (machine.stale) during controller outages.

Verification

Critical count trending to zero; Ready capacity > 0.

Files

What ships with it

1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

lab-health is a skill published in the GitHub repository Amiirhosseini/racksmith (0 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 18 tokens to every session and 336 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
