hermes-cron-automations

hermes-cron-automations is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from AmineDjeghri/personal-os-setup. It costs 19 tokens per session (2,860 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for building recurring jobs on a machine called Hermes. These jobs periodically fetch information from the internet, such as news, feeds, deals, or listings, then filter, summarize, and deliver it.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to set up daily or hourly digests, source monitors, listing searches, and other scheduled internet collection tasks.
Why use it?
It helps choose where scheduled work belongs and avoids creating an unnecessary service, container, or repository. It also separates reusable instructions from scripts that perform fetching and data cleanup.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00019 $0.02860
Opus 5.5 $0.00008 $0.01144
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00004 $0.00572
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00286

Security

Grade A, and why

hermes-cron-automations scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Recurring automations on the Hermes box

Class of task: "every day/hour, go get X from the internet and tell me about it" — news and feed digests, source monitors, listing scouts, periodic scrapes. Source-specific access facts: references/feed-sources.md.

When to Use

  • "Send me news/feeds/deals every morning", or any every-day-get-me-X recurring job.
  • Deciding where a scheduled personal automation should live (cron vs add-on vs new repo), or being asked to adopt a third-party tool for it.
  • Writing or editing the collector/digest scripts or the source list behind such a job.
  • Being asked to consult another model for a build-or-adopt opinion (§4).

0. Decide first: Hermes cron, not a new service

Want Build it as
Scheduled fetch/filter/summarize/deliver Hermes cron job(s) — no daemon, container or new repo
Reusable procedure the job follows a skill in the shared authored tree
Non-trivial fetch/normalize/dedupe logic a PEP 723 script in the repo, run via uv run --no-project
A page to look at it only then consider a UI — an add-on, or the user's existing app
  • No new HA add-on for a scheduled job the agent can run directly. The user's one general-purpose UI add-on (NiceGUI + FastAPI + Ollama) is unauthenticated and LAN-only by design, with its own tooling and release pipeline; scheduling a personal push inside it buys a service to maintain.
  • No third-party "capability layer"/CLI stack whose value is the logged-in browser route. This is a headless container with no desktop browser profile, and cookie/exported-session routes risk account bans. Take the two ideas (ordered backend list per source class; a doctor probe command) and skip the dependency — the agent already has web_search, web_extract, a headless browser, curl and uv.
  • Never a self-hosted aggregator suite (RSS-to-everything servers, feed readers, workflow engines): the user refuses to run a service to baby-sit for something they only consume. Library deps in the script (feedparser-class) are fine.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

hermes-cron-automations is a skill published in the GitHub repository AmineDjeghri/personal-os-setup (660 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 19 tokens to every session and 2,860 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-20.
